Indian Chief / Chief Bobber / Super Chief / Sport Chief Service Manual (2022-2024)

Indian completely reworked the Chief platform for the 2022 model year, timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the original Indian Chief introduced in 1921. Rather than continuing the larger full-size Chief architecture used in the preceding generation, Indian developed a simpler steel-tube chassis around its air-cooled Thunderstroke engine.

The initial family consisted of three distinct versions. The Chief provided the stripped-back cruiser configuration, the Chief Bobber used 16-inch wire wheels and bobber-inspired styling, and the Super Chief added a windshield, saddlebags, floorboards and passenger accommodations for longer-distance use.

Indian offered each concept in two broad performance levels. Standard versions used the Thunderstroke 111, producing 108 lb-ft of torque, while premium versions such as the Chief Dark Horse, Chief Bobber Dark Horse and Super Chief Limited received the Thunderstroke 116, rated at 120 lb-ft. Premium models also received additional instrumentation and equipment.

The platform combined traditional styling with modern electronics. Cruise control, keyless ignition, LED lighting and three selectable ride modes were built into the new generation, while premium versions added Indian's four-inch Ride Command display.

For 2023, Indian expanded the family with the Sport Chief, a more performance-oriented interpretation of the same basic platform. The Sport Chief paired the Thunderstroke 116 with a 43 mm KYB inverted fork, longer Fox piggyback shocks and dual radial-mount Brembo front brakes. It also adopted a quarter fairing, moto-style bars and taller risers to distinguish it from the more traditional Chief models.

The 2024 range continued the same core architecture, which is why this R03 service manual incorporates all three model years in one factory publication.
