Indian Motorcycle is a US motorcycle manufacturer that was formed in 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts and produced motorcycles until 1953. Hendee Manufacturing Company produced the bikes at initially, but the name was changed to Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company in 1923.

In the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, the Indian Motorcycle factory team finished first, second, and third. During the 1910s, Indian Motorcycle grew to become the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer. The Scout, which was made from 1920 to 1946, and the Chief, which was produced from 1922 to 1953, when the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company went bankrupt, were Indian Motorcycle’s most popular models. Many organizations have sought, with varied degrees of success, to keep the Indian Motorcycle brand name alive in the years thereafter.

Polaris Industries purchased Indian Motorcycles in 2011 and moved operations from North Carolina to existing facilities in Minnesota and Iowa. Polaris has been selling a number of current Indian bikes that are reminiscent of the vintage style of Indian Motorcycles since August 2013.
