Indian Motorcycle Full-Size Repair Manual (2014-16)

The modern Indian full-size motorcycle range arrived for the 2014 model year with the Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and Chieftain. These motorcycles established the core of the Polaris-era Indian lineup around the newly developed Thunder Stroke 111, an 1,811 cc pushrod V-twin designed to combine traditional Indian styling cues with modern fuel injection, electronic controls and a six-speed transmission. The Chief Classic provided the basic heritage-cruiser platform, the Chief Vintage added touring equipment and leather luggage, while the Chieftain introduced a fork-mounted fairing, hard saddlebags, audio and an electrically adjustable windshield.

Indian expanded the family for 2015 with the Roadmaster, positioned as its flagship luxury touring motorcycle. Built around the same Thunder Stroke 111 architecture, the Roadmaster added a rear trunk, lower fairings, heated seating and grips, greater weather protection and substantially increased luggage capacity. Indian's own launch material described the Roadmaster as a completely new model for 2015 and the top of its touring range.

The range broadened again for 2016. The Chief Dark Horse applied a stripped-back, blacked-out treatment to the Chief platform, while the Chieftain Dark Horse brought the same approach to the hard-bagger Chieftain. Indian also introduced the Springfield, combining removable touring equipment with a trunk-compatible chassis and air-adjustable rear suspension. Indian's official 2016 model archive lists the Chief Classic, Chief Vintage, Chief Dark Horse, Chieftain, Chieftain Dark Horse, Roadmaster and Springfield together in that model-year lineup.

The attached factory manual reflects that expansion. Revision R04 added Springfield content, R05 added Chieftain Dark Horse information, and R06 added engine misfire detection, creating a consolidated service reference for the 2014-2016 Thunder Stroke 111 full-size platform. The Scout and Scout Sixty are not part of this manual and use a different service-manual family.
