Honda GL1500C/CT/CF Valkyrie
The Honda Valkyrie is a motorbike produced by Honda from 1996 until 2003. It was known as the GL1500C in the United States and the F6C (“Flat Six Custom”) in other regions.
Unlike the V-twin engines normally seen on “cruiser” type bikes, the Valkyrie engine is a 1,520 cubic centimetres (93 cu in) liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed flat-six engine shared with Honda’s Gold Wing model. The most noticeable engine alterations in its conversion from the Goldwing were the camshaft and the switch to six separate 28 mm carburetors, one for each cylinder, improvements that enhanced power and torque.
In Japan, the Valkyrie was available with a reverse gear. The Valkyrie was built in America at the Honda motorcycle facility in Marysville, Ohio.
Standard, Tourer & Interstate
When it was first introduced in 1997, a bare Standard and, subsequently, a Tourer model were available. The Tourer came standard with a windscreen and lockable hard saddlebags. It was given the GL1500CT designation.
The Interstate model was added to the range in 1999, and it included a fork-mounted fairing, a higher capacity fuel tank, and a trunk at the back of the motorbike. It was given the designation GL1500CJ.
As sales declined, the Interstate and Tourer versions were phased out after 2001, leaving just the Standard model. The Standard was only available in black in 2003, the final year of the original Valkyrie.
