Yamaha FZ6 Fazer

The Yamaha FZ6, commonly known as the FZ6 FAZER, is a 600 cc (37 cu in) motorcycle produced by Yamaha in 2004 as a middleweight naked bike based on the YZF-R6 engine from 2003. The engine has been retuned to produce more useful middle power. It can handle sport riding, touring, and commuting as a multi-purpose motorbike. In 2010, the FZ6 was superseded in North America by the completely faired FZ6R, and in Europe by the XJ6 Diversion, XJ6 N, and XJ6 Diversion F. The FZ6 style was carried over to the Yamaha FZ8 and FAZER8 in 2011.

Because of its half-fairing, upright sitting posture, and underseat exhaust, this bike is a popular option. These characteristics place it between between a full-fledged supersport and a naked streetfighter (although in Europe and Australia, there is an available naked FZ6N option).

2006 revision

In 2006, the engine, frame, subframe, grabhandle, rear swingarm, and wheels were all painted black. It has a metal honeycomb catalytic converter that meets EU2 and CARB emissions regulations, as well as enhanced fuel injection (FI) system mapping to boost torque at lower engine speeds.

2007 revision

Yamaha unveiled an upgraded FZ6 for the 2007 model year in October 2006. The FZ6 received redesigned fairing and windscreen, a new instrument cluster with analog tachometer and digital speedometer (similar to the FZ1), new four-piston monoblock brake calipers for the front brake, alumite-finished front forks with revised damping, a three-way catalytic converter, a new seat design, a new rear swingarm, and new passenger footpegs.

2008 revision

Technically, the 2008 model is the same as the 2007. The only difference is that the front cowling surrounding the headlamps is now black regardless of motorbike color. ABS and an electronic immobilizer are standard on the European model ‘FZ6 Fazer S2 ABS.’

2009 revision

The 2009 model (released on September 8, 2008) is technically identical to the 2008/2007 model, with the exception of the optional more comfortable seat being standard.

2010 revision

Yamaha continued to offer the FZ6 Fazer S2 (half-faired) and FZ6 S2 (naked) in Europe for the 2010 model year. Both feature full power (98 PS) as well as ABS.

Reduced-power variants have been phased out, and the XJ6 with optional ABS has taken their place. The completely faired XJ6 Diversion F, which lacks ABS and an electronic immobilizer, is marketed as the FZ6R in North America and replaces the FZ6 in its second season on the market.
