Kawasaki ER-5
The Kawasaki ER-5 is a naked commuter motorbike manufactured by Kawasaki in Japan. The bike is powered by a liquid-cooled four-stroke DOHC 498 cc engine based on the GPZ500 design.
Engine
The 498CC DOHC liquid cooled in-line parallel twin engine of the Kawasaki ER5 develops 49.6BHP or 37kW. Two carburetors, one for each cylinder, power the engine.
Braking
The ER5 has a twin piston front disk brake and a drum brake at the back. The ER5 features a fixed disk and floating caliper, unlike many current bikes that have a fixed caliper and floating disk.
The trailing piston on ‘A’ models is smaller than the leading piston, while the later ‘C’ models have equal leading and trailing pistons, significantly enhancing front braking. Owners of ‘A’ models frequently install caliper units from ‘C’ models. Another frequent braking improvement for most motorcycles is to replace the OEM brake hose with a braided brake hose to minimize sponginess.
Suspension
The ER5 has a non-adjustable female slider front fork with 36 mm A series tubes and 37 mm C series tubes. The swingarm in the back is dual-shock with adjustable pre-load.
Controls
Standard motorcycle controls are used on the ER5: left hand clutch, right hand front brake and throttle, left foot gear stick, and right foot rear brake.
