Aprilia SR 50

The Aprilia SR is a scooter manufactured by the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia from 1992 until 2020.

It is a 2-stroke moped that is regarded as one of the first to bring the term “sport” into the world of scooters.

At the end of 2004, the fourth generation was introduced: the product of a 1.3 million euro investment, it features a completely new design, updated instrumentation, and a computer that reports autonomy, speed, consumption, and the use of halogen headlights as well as high beams (the headlights of the previous SRs, especially those of the second series, were not very powerful).

The engine retains the proven and tested Piaggio with injection, with the addition of a new carburetor. With the latter engine, the third series of the SR stays in production, renamed SR 50 Street, and with a color range reduced to Excalibur Gray and Black Line.

The unique 50 R and 50 R Factory variants were introduced in 2006. The special Replica edition reappears in 2010.

Due to the aging Euro 3 engine, manufacturing of the SR 50 Street (third series) finishes at the end of 2017, while the SR 50 R (fourth series) with Euro 4 authorized two-stroke engine is introduced at the EICMA in November.

Due to the introduction of Euro 5 laws in January 2021 and the difficulty in homologating the now-outdated two-stroke engine, production will halt in late 2020.
