Yamaha FZ6-R

The Yamaha Diversion is a line of all-purpose touring bikes derived on Yamaha‘s previous XJ series. Early Diversion versions were powered by a four-stroke, air-cooled, eight-valve inline-four engine. The model name was retained in 2009 for a new range of 16-valve liquid-cooled engines.

Diversion models

Prior to the introduction of the 2009 versions, the series had four main models: the XJ600S, XJ600N, XJ900S and XJ900GT, as well as the lesser-known YBR125 Diversion.

XJ6 Diversion, XJ6 N and XJ6 Diversion F

Yamaha reintroduced the Diversion series in 2009 with the XJ6 Diversion, XJ6 N, and XJ6 Diversion F. The former features a half-fairing, but the N variant is bare. With the exception of the ABS and electronic immobilizer, the fully faired FZ6R is the American equivalent to the European XJ6

Diversion F model.

The engine is a detuned Fazer engine, and ABS brakes is optional on both variants. The new line has a liquid-cooled 16 valve 4-stroke forward-inclined parallel 4-cylinder engine with 78 horsepower (57 kW) / 59.7 Nm of torque.

For the new Diversion series, Yamaha has retained the engine displacement at 600cc.

Yamaha FZ6 Fazer

The Yamaha FZ6, commonly known as the FZ6 FAZER, is a 600 cc (37 cu in) motorcycle produced by Yamaha in 2004 as a middleweight naked bike based on the YZF-R6 engine from 2003. The engine has been retuned to produce more useful middle power. It can handle sport riding, touring, and commuting as a multi-purpose motorbike. In 2010, the FZ6 was superseded in North America by the completely faired FZ6R, and in Europe by the XJ6 Diversion, XJ6 N, and XJ6 Diversion F. The FZ6 style was carried over to the Yamaha FZ8 and FAZER8 in 2011.

Because of its half-fairing, upright sitting posture, and underseat exhaust, this bike is a popular option. These characteristics place it between between a full-fledged supersport and a naked streetfighter (although in Europe and Australia, there is an available naked FZ6N option).

2006 revision

In 2006, the engine, frame, subframe, grabhandle, rear swingarm, and wheels were all painted black. It has a metal honeycomb catalytic converter that meets EU2 and CARB emissions regulations, as well as enhanced fuel injection (FI) system mapping to boost torque at lower engine speeds.

2007 revision

Yamaha unveiled an upgraded FZ6 for the 2007 model year in October 2006. The FZ6 received redesigned fairing and windscreen, a new instrument cluster with analog tachometer and digital speedometer (similar to the FZ1), new four-piston monoblock brake calipers for the front brake, alumite-finished front forks with revised damping, a three-way catalytic converter, a new seat design, a new rear swingarm, and new passenger footpegs.

2008 revision

Technically, the 2008 model is the same as the 2007. The only difference is that the front cowling surrounding the headlamps is now black regardless of motorbike color. ABS and an electronic immobilizer are standard on the European model ‘FZ6 Fazer S2 ABS.’

2009 revision

The 2009 model (released on September 8, 2008) is technically identical to the 2008/2007 model, with the exception of the optional more comfortable seat being standard.

2010 revision

Yamaha continued to offer the FZ6 Fazer S2 (half-faired) and FZ6 S2 (naked) in Europe for the 2010 model year. Both feature full power (98 PS) as well as ABS.

Reduced-power variants have been phased out, and the XJ6 with optional ABS has taken their place. The completely faired XJ6 Diversion F, which lacks ABS and an electronic immobilizer, is marketed as the FZ6R in North America and replaces the FZ6 in its second season on the market.

Yamaha FZ1 Fazer

The Yamaha FZ1 is a naked motorcycle manufactured by Yamaha Motor Company in Japan.

Second generation (FZ1 Fazer 2006–2015)

The bike received a fully new model in 2006, which is currently branded as the FZ1 in the United States. In Europe and other markets, it was known as the FZ1-S Fazer, which is semi-faired, as well as the FZ1-N, which is naked (without a fairing). The key differences were a new chassis, suspension, bodywork, and a whole new engine. The former tubular steel frame was replaced by a cast aluminum diecast diamond-shaped frame with the engine as a stressed element, as well as a control-filled diecast swingarm. This brought the bike up to speed with its current competitors.

The new model has a 150 horsepower 998 cc (60.9 cu in) 20-valve DOHC engine modified for greater middle torque from the 2004–2006 YZF-R1, housed in an all-new small diamond-shaped aluminum frame. The majority of this engine is the same as the YZF-R1. The main internal modifications include a 40% heavier crankshaft and a redesigned balancing shaft. New camshafts with decreased lift and duration attempt to improve performance at lower rpm, while the top two gearbox gears are higher to provide a more relaxed feel at cruising speeds.

The following changes have been made:

2006

  • When it was originally released, the stiff rear spring with a 700 lb/in
  • 2006 version featured obvious throttle snatch around 5,000––6,000 rpm, where rolling off the throttle and rolling back on generated a clear spike in acceleration owing to ‘fuel cut’ for pollution reasons.

06 – 07 Prone to weld frame fractures.

2007

  • Rear shock spring has been softened.
  • Fuel injection system has been updated. By delaying secondary butterfly opening, throttle snatch is decreased to normal. This smoothed out the surge created by the ‘fuel cut’ and subsequent re-fueling.

Yamaha FZ1

First generation Yamaha FZS1000 models are known as the FZ1 in the United States and the FZS1000 Fazer in Europe. They are built with tubular steel frames and carbureted YZF-R1 engines. Except for color variations, the introduction of the FZS1000S with a black engine, and in certain European countries, the 2005 versions were fitted with basic catalytic converters, the models remained practically unchanged over this time period.
