Indian Motorcycle Gilroy Powerplus 100 Engine
The Indian Motorcycle Company of America was founded by the merging of nine firms, including manufacturer California Motorcycle Company (CMC) and IMCOA Licensing America Inc., which was given the Indian trademark by the Federal District Court of Colorado in 1998.
The new business began producing bikes in 1999 at the former CMC plant in Gilroy, California. The Chief was the first “Gilroy Indian” model. Scout and Spirit models were also produced starting in 2001. From 2002 to 2003, these bikes were powered by 100-cubic-inch (1,600 cc) Powerplus (bottlecap) engines.
On September 19, 2003, the Indian Motorcycle Corporation declared bankruptcy and suspended all manufacturing activities in Gilroy.
