PDF Service Manuals was created around a simple belief: riders should be able to access the technical information they need to understand, maintain and repair their motorcycles.

Accurate service information helps riders maintain their bikes correctly, check specifications, understand repairs and make informed decisions about the motorcycles they own.

We believe access to that information should be practical, reasonably priced and available outside official dealer networks.

Our Position on Rider Access

You bought the motorcycle. You should be able to understand how it works, how it should be maintained and what is involved when something needs repairing.

Access to service and repair information helps riders:

Check maintenance requirements
Find the correct specifications
Understand repair procedures
Verify fluids, settings and service intervals
Discuss repairs more confidently with mechanics
Decide whether a job is within their own skills and experience
Maintain motorcycles outside official dealer networks

Independent workshops and technical information providers also depend on access to accurate manufacturer repair information.

This principle is closely connected to what is commonly known as the right to repair.

PDF Service Manuals supports that principle.

Access to Motorcycle Repair Information

European law specifically recognizes the importance of access to motorcycle repair and maintenance information.

Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, covering two- and three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles, requires manufacturers to provide independent operators with unrestricted, standardized and non-discriminatory access to vehicle repair and maintenance information.

The repair information covered by the regulation includes material required for diagnosis, servicing, inspection, repair and maintenance, including information such as:

Service handbooks
Technical manuals
Service schedules
Technical service bulletins
Diagnostic information
Component information
Wiring diagrams
Diagnostic trouble codes
Repair and maintenance procedures

The regulation also includes publishers of technical information within its definition of independent operators.

This helps ensure that motorcycle servicing and technical information are not restricted entirely to official manufacturer dealer networks.

Access Fees Should Be Reasonable

Regulation (EU) No 168/2013 also addresses the cost of accessing manufacturer repair and maintenance information.

Article 59 provides that manufacturers may charge fees for access, but those fees must be reasonable and proportionate.

In particular, the regulation states that a fee is not reasonable or proportionate if it discourages access by failing to take into account the extent to which an independent operator uses the information.

We strongly support that principle.

Anyone who has tried to obtain factory workshop information knows that technical documentation can sometimes be surprisingly expensive or unnecessarily difficult to access.

A rider who needs a torque specification, wiring diagram, maintenance procedure or repair instruction should be able to obtain that information without facing unreasonable barriers.

Making motorcycle technical information easier to access is one of the reasons PDF Service Manuals exists.

Repair Information and Copyright Are Different Issues

Access to repair information and copyright in a particular document are separate legal questions.

A manufacturer’s obligation to make repair and maintenance information accessible does not automatically mean that every document containing that information is free of copyright.

It also does not automatically create unrestricted rights to reproduce or redistribute every workshop manual.

Copyright ownership and the rights applying to a particular document depend on the individual work, its origin, age, jurisdiction, licence and other circumstances.

Where a manual or document has been released under a particular licence or distribution arrangement, the terms applying to that specific document continue to apply.

PDF Service Manuals therefore supports reasonable access to motorcycle repair information while recognizing that legitimate intellectual property rights may apply to individual documents.

We believe those positions are compatible.

Third-Party Copyright

Motorcycle service manuals, workshop manuals, diagrams, technical information and related materials may contain copyright or other intellectual property belonging to motorcycle manufacturers, publishers or other rights holders.

PDF Service Manuals does not claim ownership of third-party intellectual property simply because material is referenced, displayed or made available through this website.

A contribution made through PDF Service Manuals supports the work and infrastructure required to maintain the service. It does not transfer ownership of third-party copyright, trademarks or other intellectual property.

Motorcycle Manufacturer Names and Trademarks

Motorcycle manufacturer names, model names, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners.

Names such as Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, BMW, Ducati, KTM, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Royal Enfield and others are used where necessary to identify the motorcycles, manuals and technical information to which our pages relate.

Use of these names or trademarks does not imply sponsorship, affiliation, authorization or endorsement by the respective manufacturers.

Manual Covers and Sample Previews

Manual covers, sample pages, diagrams and other preview material may contain copyrighted material, trademarks or other intellectual property belonging to their respective rights holders.

These materials are used to help riders identify a manual and understand whether it is relevant to their motorcycle.

This is particularly useful where several workshop manuals exist for motorcycles with similar model names, different generations or overlapping production years.

Supporting Riders and Respecting Rights Holders

We do not believe rider access and intellectual property rights have to be opposing ideas.

Motorcycle owners and independent operators should have practical access to the technical information needed to maintain and repair motorcycles.

At the same time, legitimate copyright and trademark rights should be respected.

Our aim is to strike that balance responsibly.

We want riders to be able to find useful technical information without pretending that intellectual property rights do not exist.

To help us review your concern properly, please provide:

Your name and contact information
The name of the rights holder you represent, if applicable
Identification of the copyrighted work, trademark or other material concerned
The exact URL of the material you are reporting
An explanation of the rights you believe are affected
Information showing that you are the rights holder or are authorized to act on their behalf

We take legitimate intellectual property concerns seriously and will review properly documented notices in good faith.

Where appropriate, access to disputed material may be restricted or removed while the matter is reviewed.

Corrections Are Welcome

Not every issue is a copyright dispute.

If a manufacturer, motorcycle model, year range, manual, trademark or other piece of information has been identified incorrectly, please let us know.

The purpose of PDF Service Manuals is to help riders find accurate technical information.

If something is wrong, we would rather correct it than leave the next rider dealing with the same problem.
