Kawasaki KX450F
The Kawasaki KX 450F is a single motocross motorbike with a liquid-cooled DOHC 449 cc (27.4 cu in) four-valve four-stroke engine produced by Kawasaki.
It has also been available in KLX450R variants since 2007, which have extra comforts that make it more ideal for trail riding, green laning, enduro races, and lower speed riding in general. This is owing to the bigger petrol tank, 18-inch rear tire, headlight, and electronic start, as well as a retuned engine with reduced peak horsepower for improved handling from greater lower-end torque delivered more slowly.
1st generation
Unlike the Kawasaki KX250F, the KX450F was not co-developed with Suzuki Motor Co. and varied significantly from Suzuki’s 450cc offering. The KX450F debuted in 2005, however it experienced catastrophic frame breakdown during the Japanese MX season. As a result, plans for a 2005 retail version were pushed back, and the KX450F launched in most countries in 2006.
Initial reactions to the KX450F were mixed, with good responses to the engine and power delivery but dissatisfaction with the bike’s suspension and geometry. Reviewers were also critical of Kawasaki’s decision to use a 4-speed gearbox rather than the industry standard of including a fifth gear.
Despite these reported flaws, the 2006 Kawasaki KX450F went on to win the AMA World Supercross GP, the BooKoo Arenacross title, and the Hare and Hound title.
The KX450F received minor engine and chassis modifications for 2007, but the most noticeable update was a 5-speed gearbox. The transmission gained a slightly higher first gear, but the second through fourth gears remained same and a fifth gear was introduced.
