About the Kawasaki 650 and ER-6f
The 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650, sold in Europe as the ER-6f, was a substantial update of Kawasaki's middleweight parallel-twin sport platform. Kawasaki introduced the revised model for 2012 with a revamped engine, a new compact double-pipe frame, a narrower body and revised bodywork. The company positioned it as an all-around sport bike balancing everyday comfort with sporting performance, while the height-adjustable windscreen and more compact chassis supported commuting and longer-distance use. This factory manual covers the EX650EC and EX650FC versions of that 2012 platform, including ABS-equipped configurations.
Its core is a 649 cc fuel-injected parallel-twin sport bike powertrain: a liquid-cooled, four-stroke DOHC two-cylinder engine with an 83.0 × 60.0 mm bore and stroke and 10.8:1 compression ratio. Fuel delivery uses two Keihin TTK38 throttle bodies with Kawasaki DFI. Factory specifications list 53 kW (72.1 PS) at 8,500 rpm and 64 N·m at 7,000 rpm for applicable markets, with regional variations including LAMS and Southeast Asian versions. The lubrication system is semi-dry sump and total engine-oil capacity is 2.3 L.
Power passes through a wet multi-disc clutch and six-speed constant-mesh return-shift transmission to a chain final drive with a 3.067 reduction ratio. The chassis uses a tubular diamond frame with 25-degree rake, 110 mm trail and a 1,410 mm wheelbase. Factory specifications list 120/70 ZR17 front and 160/60 ZR17 rear tubeless tires, a telescopic fork with 125 mm travel and a swingarm rear suspension with 130 mm travel. Braking is by dual front discs and a single rear disc, with the manual devoting a substantial section to the anti-lock brake system on equipped models.
Kawasaki's official 2012 Ninja 650 launch announcement documents the revamped engine, new compact frame and revised styling, while the company's 2012 Owner Center page identifies the service-manual family as EX650E/F. The uploaded PDF is the first-edition revision dated September 22, 2011 and its Model Application page lists only 2012 EX650EC and EX650FC under part number 99924-1454-01.
