About the Suzuki AN400

Suzuki developed the 400-class Burgman/Skywave as a large scooter designed to combine everyday practicality with comfortable higher-speed road use. Suzuki's official Skywave 400 / Burgman 400 archive traces the line from the original 1998 model through major redesigns in 2002 and 2006. The 2006 Skywave 400 redesign introduced a newly developed fuel-injected liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, twin front disc brakes, a newly designed rigid frame, link-type rear suspension, revised wind protection and keyless ignition.

The AN400 K7 documented in this factory manual uses a 400 cm³ liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine with an 81.0 × 77.6 mm bore and stroke. Compression ratio varies by market: 10.6:1 for U.S., Canadian and California specifications and 11.2:1 for the other listed markets. Electronic fuel injection, electric starting and wet-sump lubrication are combined with a dry-shoe automatic centrifugal clutch and a continuously variable V-belt transmission.

Factory chassis specifications list a 1,585 mm wheelbase, 710 mm seat height and dry mass of 199 kg for most markets, or 200 kg for the California specification. The scooter uses a telescopic front fork, link-type rear suspension, twin front disc brakes and a single rear disc. Fourteen-inch front and thirteen-inch rear wheels, a large windscreen and extensive bodywork place it firmly in the 400cc maxi-scooter category rather than the smaller urban-scooter class.

The K7 service design is notably more complex than earlier carbureted scooters. The manual covers ECM self-diagnosis, throttle and secondary-throttle sensors, idle-speed control, fuel-pump operation, cooling-system service, automatic-clutch inspection, final-reduction gearing and full CVT disassembly. The automatic transmission section includes the drive V-belt, movable drive face, clutch shoes and movable driven face, while separate brake, chassis and electrical sections address the twin-disc front brake system and the model's extensive body-mounted electrical equipment.

This listing is specifically for the complete 475-page AN400K7 factory service manual. The source lists 2007 K7 variants for the U.K., U.S., Europe, Australia, Canada, California and Israel but contains no K8, K9 or L0 update sections, so verified applicability is 2007 only. Related manuals are organized in the Suzuki Burgman AN400 manual catalog.
