Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 VN2000 Service Manual (2004)

The 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 documented here is the VN2000-A1, the first model code in Kawasaki's 2,053 cc cruiser platform. Kawasaki's corporate motorcycle history records the VULCAN 2000 as a 2004 release, and the company's official Owner Center lists the 2004 motorcycle as VN2000-A1. The following model year appears in Kawasaki's parts catalog as VN2000-A2, but that later model code is not included in this uploaded service-manual revision.

At the center of the motorcycle is a 2053 cc fuel-injected V-twin cruiser engine: a liquid-cooled, four-stroke OHV two-cylinder unit with a 103 × 123.2 mm bore and stroke and 9.5:1 compression ratio. Kawasaki DFI handles fuel delivery, with electric starting and transistorized battery-and-coil ignition. Factory specifications list 76 kW (103 PS) at 4,800 rpm and 177 N·m at 3,200 rpm for applicable markets. The valvetrain uses hydraulic lash adjusters, so valve clearance is listed as non-adjustable rather than requiring scheduled manual adjustment.

Drive passes through a wet multi-disc clutch and five-speed constant-mesh return-shift transmission to a belt final drive. The main final-drive reduction is 2.744, with a different 2.455 specification listed for European models. The chassis uses a tubular double-cradle frame with 32-degree rake, 182 mm trail and a 1,735 mm wheelbase. Sixteen-inch tubeless tires measure 150/80-R16 at the front and 200/60-R16 at the rear. Suspension consists of a telescopic fork with 150 mm travel and a non-link mono-shock rear system with 100 mm travel, while braking is by dual front discs and a single rear disc.

Factory dimensions and capacities reinforce the large-cruiser layout: the manual lists a 680 mm seat height, 340 kg dry mass, 21 L fuel tank and 5.5 L engine-oil capacity when the engine is completely dry.
