About the Suzuki Marauder 800 and VZ800
Suzuki developed the VZ800 as a low, long middleweight cruiser built around an 805 cm³ liquid-cooled V-twin. The 1997 base model in this factory publication is the VZ800V, with a 1,645 mm wheelbase, 700 mm seat height, wide cruiser tires, inverted front fork and 207 kg dry mass. These proportions gave the model a muscular road-cruiser character within Suzuki's late-1990s range.
The VZ800 uses a 45-degree liquid-cooled OHC V-twin with an 83.0 × 74.4 mm bore and stroke. The 1997 VZ800V specification lists a 9.4:1 compression ratio and twin Mikuni carburetors, with a BDS36SS unit at the front cylinder and BS36SS at the rear. Power passes through a wet multi-plate clutch, five-speed constant-mesh gearbox and chain final drive. This makes it a carbureted 800cc V-twin cruiser with straightforward mechanical systems and conventional chain-drive servicing.
The factory supplements show steady development without replacing the underlying platform. The 1998 VZ800W retains the 805 cm³ dimensions but raises compression to 10.0:1 and records revised carburetor specifications and service data. The following factory section covers VZ800X, VZ800Y, VZ800K1, VZ800K2 and VZ800K3 for the 1999 through 2003 model years, documenting only items that differ from the 1998 machine. The final VZ800K4 section covers the 2004 model and still lists the same 805 cm³ bore and stroke, 10.0:1 compression ratio, five-speed gearbox and chain drive.
The Marauder 800 name is associated with this VZ800 product line in this catalog, while the factory publication itself identifies each motorcycle by its VZ800 model code. Suzuki's later Boulevard M50 / Intruder M800 marked the next major change in the family with fuel injection and shaft drive. Related publications are organized in the Suzuki Marauder 800 manual catalog, and Suzuki's official motorcycle archive provides broader manufacturer context at Global Suzuki Motorcycle Archive.
This listing is for the 327-page factory compilation covering VZ800V, VZ800W, VZ800X, VZ800Y, VZ800K1, VZ800K2, VZ800K3 and VZ800K4, corresponding to model years 1997 through 2004. The later-year material is included as factory supplementary sections to the original 1997 base manual.
