About the Aprilia Pegaso 650
Aprilia reshaped the Pegaso family in the mid-2000s around a lighter and more road-focused 660 cm³ single-cylinder platform. The preceding Pegaso generations had established the name as a practical large-single road and travel motorcycle, but the new range moved away from the older Rotax-based layout and split the concept into distinct road and mixed-surface versions. Piaggio Group’s 2005 financial reporting records the start of production of the new Pegaso 650 in both road and Enduro forms, marking the beginning of this generation.
The Strada represented the road-oriented side of the platform. Its 17-inch wheels, 780 mm seat height, 140 mm front suspension travel and 320 mm front brake disc gave it a supermoto-influenced stance intended for everyday road use and agile handling. The Trail used the same basic engine and composite steel chassis but adopted a 19-inch spoked front wheel, 170 mm front and rear suspension travel, 230 mm ground clearance and an 810 mm seat. That gave Aprilia two clearly differentiated motorcycles without changing the fundamental mechanical architecture.
Both versions were built around the MY 660 engine, a liquid-cooled 660 cm³ four-stroke single with four valves, electronic fuel injection and dry-sump lubrication. Factory specifications list a 100 × 84 mm bore and stroke, 10.0:1 compression, 35 kW (47 hp) at 6,250 rpm and 59 Nm at 5,250 rpm. Drive passes through a hydraulically controlled wet multi-plate clutch, five-speed gearbox and 15/44 chain final drive. This combination made the generation a fuel-injected 660 cc single-cylinder crossover with broad road usability rather than a competition-derived enduro.
In 2007 the range expanded with the Factory. Piaggio Group’s 2007 annual reporting states that the Pegaso range was completed by the launch of the Factory version. The Factory retained the road-oriented 17-inch format and 140 mm front travel of the Strada but added spoked wheels, an 800 mm seat and model-specific front-brake hardware. The same 2007 reporting also notes the introduction of Euro 3 Pegaso versions, placing this publication in the updated phase of the platform’s development.
This factory publication, Service Station Manual 854110, is copyright 2007 and explicitly covers the Pegaso 650 Strada, Trail and Factory. It provides a complete workshop treatment of the 660 platform, including internal engine overhaul as well as chassis and electrical procedures. The document itself does not state blanket 2005-2011 applicability, so this catalog entry remains conservatively verified for 2007 only. Related documentation is grouped in the Aprilia Pegaso 650 manual category.
