About the Aprilia Tuono 660
Aprilia previewed the Tuono 660 Concept at EICMA in November 2019 as the naked member of its new 660 family, pairing the compact parallel-twin project with a more upright riding position and everyday road focus. The production Tuono 660 was then unveiled globally online on 7 January 2021. In its official launch announcement, Piaggio positioned it as the middleweight expression of the Tuono V4 idea and as the naked sibling of the RS 660, sharing much of that motorcycle's underlying technology while adopting different ergonomics and chassis geometry.
The engine is a forward-facing 659 cm³ parallel twin with an 81 × 63.93 mm bore and stroke, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and 13.5:1 compression. Aprilia rated the 2021 road model at 95 hp at 10,500 rpm and 67 N·m at 8,500 rpm. Two 48 mm throttle bodies and Ride-by-Wire manage the air and fuel supply, while 270-degree combustion timing gives the twin a firing character deliberately linked to Aprilia's larger V4 engines. A six-speed gearbox and mechanically operated wet multi-plate slipper clutch complete a compact middleweight parallel-twin sport naked powertrain with a claimed 183 kg kerb weight.
The aluminium dual-beam frame and asymmetric aluminium swingarm were central to the low-weight concept, with the engine used as a structural element. Aprilia gave the Tuono its own chassis set-up rather than simply removing the RS fairing: the high handlebar, different fork-plate offset and dedicated suspension tuning were intended to make it more agile and natural on the road. The 2021 specification uses a 41 mm Kayaba upside-down fork adjustable for rebound and spring preload with 110 mm wheel travel, plus a preload- and rebound-adjustable rear monoshock with 130 mm wheel travel. Twin 320 mm Brembo front discs, a 220 mm rear disc, 17-inch wheels, an 820 mm seat and a 15-litre fuel tank round out the road-focused package.
Electronics were unusually extensive for the class at launch. The 2021 model combines Ride-by-Wire with the APRC suite, including traction control, wheelie control, cruise control, engine-brake management, selectable engine maps and multi-map ABS, coordinated through five riding modes and a TFT display. The lineage expanded quickly: at EICMA 2021 Aprilia introduced the Tuono 660 Factory, raising output to 100 hp, reducing kerb weight to 181 kg, adding more sophisticated adjustable suspension, a shorter 16-tooth front sprocket and a fuller APRC/AQS equipment package. That Factory version represents the first major performance-focused evolution of the original 2021 platform rather than evidence that every later model year shares identical service data.
This listing is based on factory publication 2Q000453, copyrighted 2021 and issued jointly for RS 660 and Tuono 660. It covers pre-delivery, specifications, scheduled maintenance, electrical diagnosis and wiring, complete internal engine repair, fuel and intake systems, suspension, chassis, brakes, cooling and bodywork. Because the source contains no later-year application table or update section establishing 2022-onward compatibility, catalog coverage remains restricted to 2021. Related documents are grouped in the Aprilia Tuono 660 category.
