About the Suzuki M109R and VZR1800

Suzuki introduced the Boulevard M109R / Intruder M1800R in 2006 as a large-displacement performance cruiser built around an unusually oversquare V-twin and sportbike-influenced chassis hardware. Suzuki's official digital archive describes the original model as a new type of cruiser combining flowing bodywork with very high engine output and performance-oriented suspension and brakes.

The M109R, factory model family VZR1800, uses a 1,783 cm³ liquid-cooled DOHC 54-degree V-twin with a 112.0 × 90.5 mm bore and stroke and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Electronic fuel injection feeds the engine, while power passes through a wet multi-plate clutch, five-speed constant-mesh transmission and shaft final drive. The basic engine and drivetrain architecture established at launch remained the foundation of the 2010 L0 model documented by this supplement.

For the 2010 model year, Suzuki retained the core 1783cc high-performance power cruiser concept while revising a number of service-relevant details. The L0 supplement records updated dimensions and curb mass, exhaust-camshaft identification, clutch plate selection, crankshaft journal-bearing data, secondary-gear shimming and universal-joint installation. Chassis and electrical changes include revised front-fork construction, steering components, rear-brake installation, charging-system checks, tachometer construction and multiple routing and body-installation details.

The supplement also documents differences in FI component location, exhaust construction and the model-specific wiring layout. These changes are not a complete re-documentation of the motorcycle; Suzuki explicitly instructs technicians to use the supplement together with the VZR1800/NK9 2009 base service manual. Procedures and specifications not repeated in the L0 publication therefore remain governed by that base manual.
