About the Moto Guzzi V85 TT
Moto Guzzi developed the modern V85 concept during the late 2010s as a return to the simple, versatile adventure motorcycles associated with the great desert rallies of the 1980s. The V85 concept, presented in 2017, blended classic Mandello del Lario styling with a purpose-designed middleweight chassis and a new transverse 90-degree V-twin. It was intended to fill a different role from Moto Guzzi's earlier Stelvio 1200: more accessible in weight and displacement, and equally suitable for touring roads and unpaved routes. The firm's original V85 presentation identified the new air-cooled engine and shaft-drive platform as the foundation for a future model family.
The production V85 TT arrived for 2019, with a distinct twin-headlamp design, tubular frame, long-travel suspension and an upright touring position. Its 853 cc engine kept the hallmark outward-facing cylinders but was considerably modernized compared with older small-block twins. It used an 84 mm bore and 77 mm stroke, two valves per cylinder, pushrods and rocker arms, and a six-speed transmission with shaft final drive. Electronic throttle control, selectable riding modes and touring electronics accompanied the traditional engine arrangement. The combination gave Moto Guzzi a middleweight Italian adventure-touring motorcycle with recognizable character but contemporary usability.
As the platform became established, Moto Guzzi expanded the range with the V85 TT Travel in 2020, introducing a more touring-oriented equipment package including better wind protection and luggage. For 2021, the manufacturer revised the engine to meet Euro 5 emissions standards. It retained the 853 cc 90-degree air-cooled V-twin architecture but refined its internal timing and combustion-related characteristics to improve low- and middle-rpm delivery, with a quoted 76 hp and 82 Nm for that edition. Other refinements to the motorcycle included tubeless-ready spoked wheels and more riding modes. The official 2021 announcement explains the model evolution and the continuity of its engine layout.
A more substantial engine change followed for the 2024 range, when Euro 5+ compliance was paired with variable valve timing. A centrifugal phase-adjustment mechanism on the camshaft revised the valve events as engine speed increased, helping raise peak output to 80 hp at 7,750 rpm while achieving a broader torque curve, with 83 Nm at 5,100 rpm. The updated range introduced three related motorcycles: the new road-biased V85 Strada, the familiar V85 TT and the touring-equipped V85 TT Travel. Restyled bodywork, updated instruments and additional rider-assistance technology marked the broader model-year revision. Moto Guzzi's 2024 launch release documents the variable-valve-timing development and expanded lineup.
The V85 family therefore traces a clear mechanical progression from the Euro 4 launch engine, through the 2021 Euro 5 revision, to the Euro 5+ variable-timing design introduced in 2024. Throughout those stages it retained the air-cooled transverse V-twin architecture and shaft-drive touring identity that distinguish the marque. The factory publication 2Q000383 was copyrighted in 2024 and covers the three engine configurations, including the later phase-adjustment system; it is not a complete motorcycle workshop book. Its 2019–2024 catalog date range reflects this independently documented model evolution, not a factory year-by-year fitment table. Additional related publications can be found in the Moto Guzzi service manual catalog.
