Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport 2V ABS Service Manual (2007-2008)

Moto Guzzi introduced the 1200 Sport in October 2006 during the marque’s mid-2000s revival under Piaggio ownership. The model followed Gianfranco Guareschi’s Battle of Twins victories at Daytona and was conceived as a road-going expression of the renewed sporting image of the Mandello factory. It shared its basic platform with the contemporary Breva 1100/1200 family, but adopted sharper bodywork, a more committed riding position and chassis detailing intended to make the big-block twin feel more athletic. Moto Guzzi’s official historical overview identifies the 1200 Sport as the motorcycle created to embody that revived sporting spirit.

The Sport 2V 1200 ABS belongs to the original 2007-2008 generation, before the later Quattrovalvole redesign. Its 1151 cc air-cooled 90-degree V-twin used a 95 × 81.2 mm bore and stroke, 9.8:1 compression and two valves per cylinder operated by pushrods and rocker arms. Factory service data specifies more than 65 kW at 7,500 rpm. The engine fed through twin 45 mm throttle bodies with Magneti Marelli electronic injection, while a hydraulic dry twin-plate clutch, six-speed gearbox and cardan final drive retained the traditional mechanical character of a large Moto Guzzi.

The chassis placed that drivetrain in a road-focused sporting package rather than a pure superbike. A high-strength steel-tube frame, 45 mm adjustable conventional fork, progressive-link rear monoshock and 17-inch cast-alloy wheels gave the 1200 Sport stable, neutral road manners. Twin 320 mm front discs and a 282 mm rear disc provided the braking hardware, while the ABS version added anti-lock control without changing the fundamental chassis layout. With a 23-litre tank, 800 mm seat and two-seat accommodation, it was best understood as a big-block Italian sport-touring roadster with enough comfort and range for everyday and long-distance use.

The original two-valve generation was relatively short-lived. During the second half of 2008 Moto Guzzi introduced a major update using the newer four-valve-per-cylinder engine already associated with the Griso and Stelvio families. That 1200 Sport 4V brought a clear technical break: the same 1151 cc basic capacity was retained, but the cylinder-head design, breathing and performance character changed significantly. Piaggio’s 2008 annual report specifically records the four-valve 1200 Sport as an important update to an existing model, marking the transition away from the earlier two-valve machine.
