About the Moto Guzzi Breva V1100 ABS
Moto Guzzi introduced the large-capacity Breva 1100 in March 2005 as one of the most important motorcycles in the company’s early Piaggio-era renewal. The smaller Breva 750 had already re-established a modern roadster line, but the 1100 moved the concept into a much more substantial class with a new big-block chassis, six-speed transmission and reactive shaft drive. The ABS-equipped Breva V1100 ABS added two-channel anti-lock braking to that platform while retaining the upright, practical roadster character that defined the Breva family. Piaggio Group’s official Moto Guzzi history records the Breva 1100’s March 2005 introduction as a key model in the marque’s revival.
The 1064 cc engine remained recognisably Moto Guzzi: an air-cooled transverse 90-degree V-twin with a 92 × 80 mm bore and stroke, pushrods and two valves per cylinder. In the Euro 3 ABS specification, compression was 9.8:1 and fuel delivery used Magneti Marelli IAW5A management with twin 45 mm throttle bodies, Weber IWP162 injectors, lambda feedback, twin-spark ignition and an idle-control stepper motor. A period factory brochure rated the engine at 63 kW (86 CV) at 7,800 rpm and 85 Nm at 6,000 rpm. A hydraulically operated dry twin-disc clutch fed a six-speed gearbox.
The chassis was one of the Breva 1100 generation’s defining advances. A high-strength tubular-steel frame carried a 45 mm fork, progressive-link rear monoshock and 17-inch cast wheels, while twin 320 mm front discs and a 282 mm rear disc provided the braking hardware. Moto Guzzi’s C.A.R.C. reactive shaft-drive system used a double universal joint and floating bevel-gear arrangement to reduce the suspension rise and torque reactions associated with older shaft-driven motorcycles. The ABS version added separate wheel-speed sensing and hydraulic modulation while preserving the same core chassis. With a 1,495 mm wheelbase, 23-litre tank and 800 mm seat, the result was a large Italian ABS-equipped shaft-drive roadster aimed at everyday road use and longer-distance riding rather than outright sport performance.
The Breva family broadened quickly around this platform. An 850 version arrived in 2006, while the 1100 itself received Euro 3 and ABS developments documented in factory literature from that period. The original 1100 generation was relatively short-lived because Moto Guzzi moved the upper end of the Breva range to 1,151 cc in the final months of 2007. Factory parts catalogue GU077 identifies the Breva V IE 1100 and its ABS equipment as a 2005-2007 generation, matching the transition to the Breva 1200. The same big-block platform also informed the Norge touring family and helped establish the chassis, electronics and shaft-drive architecture used across Moto Guzzi’s renewed road range.
This product covers factory Service Station Manual 854310, the Breva V1100 ABS workshop publication preserved in an April 2013 English revision. The manual consolidates service information for the 2005-2007 1100 ABS generation and should not be treated as documentation for the later Breva 1200 ABS. Related workshop material is grouped in the Moto Guzzi Breva V1100 ABS service manual catalog.
