About the Aprilia Shiver 750 and SL 750
Aprilia presented the Shiver 750 at Noale on 23 May 2007 as a new entry in the middleweight naked-bike sector. Piaggio Group's 2007 reporting records the launch as an important step into a segment that represented a substantial share of the European motorcycle market, while Aprilia's official brand history describes the model as part of the major renewal of its road-motorcycle range. Rather than adapting an older large-capacity platform, Aprilia developed a new twin-cylinder engine and chassis package around the needs of a compact, road-focused naked motorcycle.
The SL 750 used Aprilia's M551M 749.9 cm³ 90-degree V-twin, with a 92 × 56.4 mm bore and stroke, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and 11.0:1 compression. Electronic multipoint injection feeds 52 mm throttle valves, and the engine drives through a wet multi-disc clutch, six-speed gearbox and 16/44 chain final drive. Its most significant innovation was electronic throttle control: Aprilia identifies the Shiver as the first production motorcycle to use Ride-by-Wire to manage the engine throttle valves. That made the model an important early example of the Ride-by-Wire middleweight naked bike, years before electronically managed throttles became commonplace across road motorcycles.
The chassis combined high-strength steel tubing with die-cast aluminium side plates, giving the bike a distinctive mixed-material structure rather than a conventional all-steel or all-aluminium frame. Factory dimensions list a 1,440 mm wheelbase, 810 mm saddle height and 210 kg kerb weight with a full fuel tank. A 43 mm upside-down fork provides 120 mm travel, while the rear uses a swingarm and adjustable hydraulic monoshock with 122 mm wheel travel. Braking is by twin 320 mm floating front discs with radial four-piston calipers and a 240 mm rear disc. The under-seat exhaust layout and exposed trellis-and-aluminium chassis also became visual signatures of the Shiver family.
The 750 platform quickly became more than a single-model project. Aprilia's official history states that the Dorsoduro was created around the same twin-cylinder engine in 2008, extending the architecture into a supermoto-influenced road bike. Shiver 750 remained in the range for years, with later versions adding revised mapping and equipment while retaining the basic 750 V-twin concept. The major generational change arrived for 2017 with the Shiver 900. Piaggio describes that model as the evolution of the original 2007 project, increasing displacement, torque and electronic sophistication while preserving the mixed steel/aluminium chassis concept and the Shiver's road-oriented character.
This listing is based specifically on Service Station Manual 854146 for MY2007. It covers characteristics, scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, electrical diagnosis and wiring, engine removal, complete internal V-twin overhaul, fuel injection and Ride-by-Wire, suspension, chassis, brakes, clutch, cooling and bodywork. The publication contains no application table establishing compatibility with later 2008-2016 machines, so catalog coverage remains restricted to 2007. Related documents are grouped in the Aprilia Shiver 750 category.
