Husaberg FE 450 / FE 570 Service Manual (2009)

Husaberg entered the 2009 model year with a completely reworked FE enduro platform that departed sharply from the brand's earlier, more conventional four-stroke layout. The factory repair publication identifies the new-generation lineup as the FE 450 and FE 570 for European, Australian and U.S. markets. Contemporary testing described the redesign as an attempt to centralize rotating mass by placing the crankshaft much closer to the motorcycle's center of gravity, with the cylinder inclined about 70 degrees. The FE 450 uses a 449.3 cm³ liquid-cooled single with a 95 × 63.4 mm bore and stroke, while the FE 570 enlarges the same architecture to 565.5 cm³ with a 100 × 72 mm bore and stroke. Both versions use an 11.8:1 compression ratio, OHC four-valve cylinder head, electronically controlled fuel injection, hydraulic wet multi-disc clutch and six-speed transmission. The engine layout, electric starting system and EFI made this a distinctly modern fuel-injected 70-degree enduro platform even though the motorcycles retained the light, narrow feel expected of competition-oriented off-road machines.

The chassis was designed around that unusual engine position rather than simply adapting an older frame. The repair data specifies WP 48 mm upside-down forks with 300 mm of travel and a WP PDS rear shock with 335 mm of travel. A 1,475 mm wheelbase, 63.5-degree steering-head angle, 260 mm front disc and 220 mm rear disc place the motorcycles firmly in the serious enduro category. The 2009 manual also documents market-specific lighting and equipment differences for EU, AUS and USA versions while retaining the same core engine and chassis architecture.

This generation became one of Husaberg's most recognizable technical experiments. The 70-degree layout continued beyond the initial 450/570 pair, with additional derivatives appearing in following model years before the brand was eventually folded back into Husqvarna's product lineage. Husqvarna's official brand history records that Husaberg had been created in 1988 by the Swedish development team that remained behind after Husqvarna's move to Italy, and that in 2013 the KTM Group's ownership of both brands brought the two branches back together.
