About the Hyosung GV125
Hyosung developed the Aquila 125 during the period when the Korean manufacturer was moving from Suzuki-linked production toward its own motorcycle platforms. Hyosung's corporate history records motorcycle production beginning in 1978, technical cooperation with Suzuki from 1979, establishment of its own R&D capability in 1986 and mass production of independently developed models from 1987. Motorrad's company history places development of the Aquila 125 and 250 V-twins in Hyosung's 1997-2005 expansion phase, when the company was building a broader export-oriented range.
The Aquila 125 reached European markets around 2000 as a small-displacement cruiser with unusually ambitious engineering for its class. L'Argus described the machine as the “new Aquila” in August 2000 and highlighted its twin-cylinder engine, twin carburetors, four overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and six-speed gearbox. That gave the model a more sophisticated mechanical specification than many contemporary learner-class customs and helped distinguish it from Hyosung's earlier Cruise models.
The GV125 designation identifies the same 125-class cruiser platform in Hyosung's model coding. The factory specification uses a 124.7 cm³ air/oil-cooled DOHC twin with 44 × 41 mm bore and stroke, twin BDS26 carburetors, wet multi-plate clutch and six-speed constant-mesh transmission. A 1,490 mm wheelbase, 33-degree caster, 153 kg unladen mass, 110/90 front tire and 130/90-15 rear tire gave it the stance of a substantially larger cruiser. This combination made it a distinctive 125 cc V-twin cruiser aimed at riders who wanted full-size styling and a more refined high-revving engine than a typical single-cylinder learner bike.
The Aquila/GV125 remained part of Hyosung's small-cruiser lineage for years, but later motorcycles should not be assumed to be mechanically identical to this first-generation specification. Hyosung's later model history eventually introduced the GV125S as a new-generation 125 cruiser, with substantially different styling and powertrain architecture. That later successor underscores the need to separate the original twin-carburetor Aquila platform from later GV125 variants rather than treating the nameplate as one unchanged service specification.
This listing is therefore tied specifically to the original factory configuration documented by Service Manual No. 99000-95210. The manual carries a 2000 copyright and is marked “2nd Ed. OCT. 2001,” while the corresponding factory owner's manual was already issued in February 2000 and contemporary press documented the Aquila in 2000. Because the service source itself does not state general 1998-2005 applicability, catalog coverage is conservatively limited to 2000. Related factory publications are grouped in the Hyosung GV125 manual catalog. External background: L'Argus 2000 Aquila road test and Hyosung corporate history.
