Kawasaki ER-6n Service Manual (2009–2011)

Kawasaki carried the ER-6n / ER-6n ABS into a second major generation for 2009, building on the compact 649 cc parallel-twin formula introduced in 2006. The ER-6n remained the naked member of the ER-6 family, paired with the faired ER-6f / Ninja 650R and positioned as an accessible middleweight road bike rather than a high-strung supersport. Its appeal came from a combination of manageable size, upright ergonomics, useful low-to-midrange power and distinctive naked-bike styling that suited city riding, commuting and general road use.

The 2009–2011 motorcycles use the ER650C/D model-code family. Kawasaki's official 2010 ER-6n record confirms continuation of the C-series, while D-series versions carried ABS. Mechanically, this generation retained a 649 cc parallel-twin street bike layout with a liquid-cooled DOHC two-cylinder engine, 83 × 60 mm bore and stroke, 11.3:1 compression, electronic fuel injection, six-speed transmission and chain final drive. The platform continued Kawasaki's emphasis on a narrow engine and everyday torque delivery, characteristics that distinguished the ER-6n from four-cylinder middleweights and helped make the family approachable for newer riders without limiting its usefulness for experienced owners.

The next redesign was much more substantial. Kawasaki's 2012 ER-6n announcement stated that the ER-6 series was completely renewed and highlighted a new double-pipe perimeter frame, revised swingarm, slimmer chassis, redesigned seat, updated instrumentation and stronger low-to-midrange torque. That generation continued the ER-6n name until Kawasaki shifted the naked 650 line to the Z650 for 2017. Kawasaki's 2017 environmental report explicitly identifies the Z650 and Ninja 650 as successors to the previous ER-6n/ER-6f models, marking the next clear step in the same middleweight parallel-twin lineage.

For service information, the 2009–2011 ER650C/D generation should be kept distinct from both the earlier 2006–2008 ER650A/B bikes and the completely renewed 2012-on platform.
