Kawasaki Vulcan VN1500 Nomad / Classic Tourer Carb Service Manual (1998-2001)

Kawasaki developed the Vulcan 1500 Nomad / Classic Tourer as the touring version of its large Vulcan 1500 Classic platform. The model appeared in 1998 in several international markets as the VN1500 Classic Tourer, while Kawasaki used the Nomad name prominently in North America. The factory manual reflects those regional differences directly, covering G-series and H-series motorcycles under both names.

The touring model used the same basic 1,470 cc liquid-cooled V-twin architecture as the Vulcan 1500 Classic, but Kawasaki designed the Nomad around longer-distance riding. It came equipped with a windshield, hard saddlebags and a more touring-focused riding package. Contemporary Cycle World coverage described the Nomad as Kawasaki's entry into the large windshield-and-saddlebag touring-cruiser class and noted that it was developed from the Vulcan 1500 Classic rather than being merely a Classic with luggage added.

The carbureted version used a single 40 mm Keihin CVK carburetor and Kawasaki's K-TRIC throttle-responsive ignition system. K-TRIC varied ignition timing according to throttle position as well as engine speed, while hydraulic valve lash adjusters reduced routine valve-train maintenance.

For North America, Kawasaki's records identify the 1999 VN1500-G1/G1A, the 2000 VN1500-G2A and the 2001 VN1500-G3 as Vulcan 1500 Nomad models. Kawasaki's parts catalog confirms the carbureted G2A for 2000 and the G3 for 2001.

An important change occurred around the 2000 model year when Kawasaki also introduced the Vulcan 1500 Nomad Fi, using the separate VN1500-L1 designation. The carbureted G-series did not disappear immediately, which is why Kawasaki records show both the 2000 VN1500-G2A carbureted Nomad and the separate VN1500-L1 Nomad Fi.
