About the Kawasaki Z1000
Kawasaki brought the modern Z1000 back for the 2003 model year as a deliberately aggressive large-capacity naked bike. A later Kawasaki technical paper on the Z-series says the 2003 machine helped establish the company's modern Supernaked concept through radical styling, agility and strong road performance. That first generation set the visual and dynamic direction for the models that followed rather than simply recreating the classic Z motorcycles of the 1970s.
For the 2007 model year the Z1000 was substantially redesigned. Kawasaki's 2007 annual report specifically identifies the Z1000 and Z750 as newly redesigned sport models that had earned strong recognition in Europe. The second-generation Z1000 retained a liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four but used a 953 cc engine with a 77.2 × 50.9 mm bore and stroke, 11.2:1 compression and Keihin TTK36 electronic fuel injection. Factory full-power specifications list 92.0 kW (125 PS) and 98.7 N·m, placing the bike firmly in the 953 cc naked sport motorcycle class.
The chassis matched that road-focused role with a tubular diamond frame, 24.5-degree rake, 17-inch wheels, inverted front suspension and Uni-Trak rear suspension. Power passes through a wet multi-disc clutch and six-speed constant-mesh gearbox to a chain final drive. Kawasaki offered both conventional-brake and ABS-equipped versions, represented by the ZR1000B and ZR1000C families in this manual. The ABS models carry additional brake-system hardware while retaining the same basic engine and chassis platform.
This generation remained in production through 2009 before another major break for 2010. Kawasaki's 2010 annual report states that the Z1000 received a full model change, introducing the later 1,043 cc platform and marking the end of the 953 cc ZR1000B/C generation. The 2007–2009 bikes therefore form a distinct mechanical and styling phase between the original 2003 Z1000 and the substantially different 2010 successor.
This download is specifically factory service manual 99924-1380-03, Third Edition dated June 26, 2008. Its Model Application table explicitly covers 2007 ZR1000B7F/C7F, 2008 B8F/C8F and 2009 B9F/C9F, so the existing 2007–2009 product range is retained and verified.
