About the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello and V100 Mandello S
Moto Guzzi unveiled the new V100 platform at EICMA in November 2021, the year of the Italian manufacturer's centenary. Rather than redesigning an established V7 or V85 model, the Mandello del Lario engineers conceived an all-new motorcycle to mark the beginning of the company's second century. The project combined the traditional transverse 90-degree V-twin silhouette with a more compact chassis, greater touring comfort and electronic equipment that had not previously appeared together on a Moto Guzzi. Its name honoured the factory's home town, while its visual references to the historic Le Mans series linked a distinctly modern motorcycle to the marque's sporting heritage. The official 2021 EICMA introduction described the machine as a new kind of roadster-tourer.
The production V100 Mandello, launched in 2022, introduced Moto Guzzi's new Compact Block engine. This liquid-cooled 1,042 cc V-twin used a 96 mm bore and 72 mm stroke, chain-driven double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and cylinder heads rotated to improve intake packaging and rider legroom. It was a fundamental break from the marque's earlier air-cooled pushrod and big-block architectures while retaining the familiar outward-facing cylinders and shaft final drive. A counter-rotating crankshaft, an integrated alternator and a hydraulic wet multi-plate clutch reduced dimensions and improved refinement. The launch specification quoted 115 hp at 8,700 rpm and 105 Nm at 6,750 rpm, delivered through a six-speed gearbox.
Equally significant was the motorcycle's liquid-cooled Italian sport-touring platform. Moto Guzzi used a steel-tube frame with a compact wheelbase and upright ergonomics, making it more agile than a conventional heavyweight tourer while preserving long-distance capability. Electrically adjustable windshield height and automatically deployed side deflectors brought an early production application of adaptive aerodynamics to motorcycling. A six-axis inertial platform supported cornering ABS and traction control, while ride-by-wire operation offered different power, engine-braking and intervention settings through selectable riding modes. A colour TFT display and cruise control added everyday usability. The October 2022 manufacturer launch release described these innovations and the new engine concept.
Two principal versions of the original machine catered to different priorities. The standard V100 Mandello combined mechanically adjustable Kayaba suspension with the core aerodynamic, electronic and touring features. The Mandello S retained the same engine and chassis architecture but added Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension, an up-and-down quickshifter, heated grips, tyre-pressure monitoring and connected Moto Guzzi MIA equipment. Its electronically controlled fork and rear shock offered a more adaptable balance between spirited road use and two-up touring. Both versions had the same recognizable fairing, single-sided shaft-drive swingarm and compact styling, so the S was a higher-equipment version of the same first-generation motorcycle rather than a separate engine family.
The first V100 generation also established a foundation for future Moto Guzzi products. Its liquid-cooled Compact Block architecture subsequently informed the new Stelvio adventure-tourer, although that model used different chassis, bodywork and application-specific equipment. The V100's role in the range therefore extended beyond an isolated anniversary launch: it showed how the historic transverse-twin identity could be retained alongside modern emissions controls, active aerodynamics and advanced rider electronics. The original 2023 factory Service Station Manual, publication 2Q000541, includes both the standard and S configurations, but refers internal engine-overhaul procedures to a separately issued engine manual. For related documents see the Moto Guzzi service manuals catalog. The 2022–2023 date range describes this early documented version; it is not a factory year-by-year compatibility chart.
