About the Moto Guzzi V7 II ABS
Moto Guzzi introduced the V7 II at Intermot in September 2014 as the second modern generation of its successful middleweight V7 family. The outgoing V7 had already established the formula of a compact transverse V-twin, shaft drive and classic roadster styling, but the V7 II represented a substantial mechanical and ergonomic revision rather than a cosmetic update. Piaggio Group presented it as a 2015-season model and said the new generation would reach European markets from November 2014. See the manufacturer’s official V7 II launch announcement.
The most important change was the new six-speed gearbox, replacing the previous five-speed unit and giving the V7 a closer, more flexible spread of ratios. The clutch was revised for lighter, more progressive action, while the engine was tilted four degrees forward and lowered by 10 mm in the frame. Together with footpegs positioned 25 mm lower, those changes created more knee room and a more natural riding position. Safety technology also moved forward significantly: dual-channel ABS and MGCT traction control became defining features of the second-generation Moto Guzzi V7. The familiar 744 cc air-cooled 90-degree V-twin remained, producing 48 hp at 6,200 rpm and 60 Nm at 2,800 rpm, with Marelli electronic fuel injection and shaft final drive.
The range initially continued with three distinct personalities. The V7 II Stone was the simplest and most contemporary version, using cast alloy wheels and understated finishes. The V7 II Special leaned more heavily into Moto Guzzi heritage, with wire-spoke wheels and graphics inspired by the 1975 V750 S3. The V7 II Racer remained the sporting factory special, combining low handlebars, a solo-oriented riding position, a red frame and the model’s signature numbered-edition presentation. Although their styling differed, all three shared the V7 II’s revised chassis layout, six-speed transmission, ABS and traction-control package.
For 2016 the family expanded with the V7 II Stornello, a limited and numbered scrambler-style derivative that revived a historic Moto Guzzi name. Presented at EICMA 2015 and launched commercially in 2016, it combined the V7 II platform with a high Arrow exhaust, spoked wheels, approved knobby tyres, aluminium details and a red-and-white colour scheme recalling earlier Stornello scramblers. Piaggio described it as a factory special suitable for light off-road use while retaining the core V7 II improvements. See the manufacturer’s V7 II Stornello introduction.
The V7 II generation was short but technically important. At EICMA in November 2016, Moto Guzzi unveiled the V7 III as the third generation, with a substantially redesigned engine, revised chassis and Euro 4 development, creating a clear break for the 2017 model year. The V7 II therefore sits between the earlier five-speed modern V7 and the more extensively reworked V7 III, and introduced features such as the six-speed gearbox, ABS and traction control that became central to later V7 development. This product specifically covers the 2015-2016 V7 II ABS Stone, Special, Racer and Stornello specification documented by factory publication 2Q000105.
