Moto Guzzi V85 TT Service Manual (2019)

Moto Guzzi first showed the V85 concept at EICMA 2017 as the basis of a new middleweight motorcycle family and a return to the company’s travel-enduro roots. Its design deliberately referenced the rally-raid motorcycles of the 1980s while avoiding the size and complexity that had come to define many modern adventure bikes. The concept introduced a new 850-class transverse V-twin platform, a steel-tube frame and shaft drive, combining familiar Moto Guzzi architecture with a new purpose-built chassis. The production V85 TT arrived in 2019 after the final version was shown during the 2018 Moto Guzzi Open House and at EICMA 2018. Production began at Mandello del Lario in February 2019. The new 853 cc air-cooled 90-degree V-twin produced 80 hp and 80 Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox and cardan final drive. Ride-by-wire throttle control, ABS and traction control brought modern electronics to a layout that remained unmistakably Moto Guzzi. The company positioned the model as a classic travel enduro, intended to work as an everyday road motorcycle, long-distance tourer and light off-road machine rather than as a competition-focused adventure bike. The first-generation chassis reinforced that mixed-purpose role. A 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked-wheel combination, 168 mm of front suspension travel, a 23-litre fuel tank and a relatively simple air-cooled engine gave the bike long-range practicality without abandoning the visual cues of older Guzzi machines. Twin round headlamp elements, the exposed transverse cylinders and a high front mudguard helped create a distinct identity in a market dominated by more aggressively styled adventure motorcycles. The V85 TT also revived Moto Guzzi’s association with long-distance exploration, linking the new model to the company’s historic participation in desert and endurance travel.

The range broadened quickly. For the 2020 model year, Moto Guzzi added the V85 TT Travel, a factory-equipped touring derivative with luggage and additional travel equipment. A more substantial update followed for 2021: revised valve timing and engine management increased low- and mid-range torque, tubeless spoked wheels reduced unsprung weight, and two additional riding modes expanded the electronics package. The platform continued to develop rather than being replaced. For 2024 Moto Guzzi reorganised the family into V85 Strada, V85 TT and V85 TT Travel, introduced Euro 5+ compliance and variable valve timing, and further differentiated the road, all-terrain and touring versions. That evolution shows how the 2019 motorcycle established a durable model line rather than a short-lived derivative.
