Moto Guzzi V85 TT / Travel / Strada Service Manual (2024)

Moto Guzzi began developing a new middleweight adventure motorcycle in the late 2010s, drawing on the style and accessibility of classic long-distance enduro machines rather than copying the larger, heavier touring motorcycles common in the segment. First shown as the V85 concept in 2017, the project featured a new transverse 90-degree V-twin and a dedicated steel-tube chassis. Production started in Mandello del Lario in February 2019, and the resulting V85 TT combined shaft final drive, a 19-inch front wheel, an upright riding position and distinctive twin round LED headlights. The TT initials recalled the Italian term “Tutto Terreno,” emphasizing the model's road-and-trail versatility. The factory's original V85 TT announcement documented the new platform and its intended place in the Guzzi lineup.

The first production V85 used an 853 cc air-cooled transverse twin with pushrod-operated valves, preserving the outward-facing cylinders and mechanical simplicity associated with the marque. It was designed around accessible midrange performance rather than exceptional outright speed. Electronic ride-by-wire throttles, riding modes, cruise control and a colour instrument display brought contemporary convenience to an otherwise traditional-looking motorcycle. Its long-distance potential also reflected Moto Guzzi's earlier adventure heritage, including the Quota and the larger Stelvio. With balanced proportions and a broad 23-litre fuel tank, the new model gave the company a classic Italian middleweight adventure-tourer that could serve commuting, touring and unpaved-road riding.

In November 2019 Moto Guzzi announced the V85 TT Travel, introduced for the 2020 range, expanding the platform's touring focus without altering its underlying character. A higher windshield, panniers, supplementary LED lights, heated grips and the Moto Guzzi MIA smartphone-connectivity system helped define this more extensively equipped version. The standard V85 TT remained the all-rounder of the range, while Travel appealed to riders planning longer journeys with luggage. The two models maintained the recognizable dual-headlamp design, transverse-twin layout, tubular frame and shaft transmission. Their shared foundation made it possible for Guzzi to offer different levels of comfort and weather protection without introducing an entirely separate engine family.

The next major step came in 2021, when a revised Euro 5 engine delivered improved low- and midrange torque through changes to the valve actuation and electronic calibration. Tubeless-compatible spoked rims and expanded riding-mode functionality modernized the V85 TT and Travel. In its 2021 manufacturer announcement, Piaggio emphasized the balance between established Guzzi mechanical architecture and improved everyday dynamics. The model also acquired additional finishes and special editions, including a Guardia d'Onore edition, further establishing the V85 platform as an enduring part of the manufacturer's lineup rather than a short-lived retro experiment.

For 2024 the V85 family received its most consequential update since launch. Euro 5+ emissions compliance came with variable valve timing, revised cylinder-head covers, an updated five-inch TFT display and redesigned bodywork. The 853 cc twin now produced a quoted 80 hp and 83 Nm, with a broader delivery. The lineup expanded to three clearly differentiated motorcycles: the new V85 Strada, a road-focused version with cast wheels and simplified equipment; the V85 TT, retaining spoked wheels and its multi-surface riding focus; and the V85 TT Travel, adding more wind protection, luggage and touring conveniences.
