About the Royal Enfield Himalayan
Royal Enfield launched the Himalayan in 2016 as a purpose-built adventure-touring motorcycle developed around the new LS410 single-cylinder engine and a ground-up chassis. Royal Enfield's official 2016 launch material described it as a more accessible, non-extreme form of adventure touring, intended to work on difficult mountain roads as well as in everyday urban use.
The original carbureted Himalayan uses the LS410 engine, a 411 cm³ single-cylinder four-stroke SOHC unit. Royal Enfield's launch specifications list 24.5 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 32 N·m of torque, matched to a five-speed transmission. The BS III factory manual identifies the induction system as a UCD33 constant-vacuum carburetor with a #125 main jet and #15 pilot jet. The long-stroke 78 × 86 mm engine architecture and 9.5:1 compression ratio emphasize usable low- and mid-range torque rather than high-rpm output.
The chassis is a half-duplex split-cradle design with 200 mm of front-wheel travel and 180 mm at the rear. The factory BS III manual lists a 1,465 mm wheelbase, 220 mm ground clearance, 800 mm saddle height and 182 kg kerb weight. A 21-inch front wheel, 17-inch rear wheel, long-travel suspension and front and rear disc brakes define the motorcycle as a 411cc carbureted adventure motorcycle designed around rough-road stability and practical touring.
The first-generation Himalayan combines deliberately straightforward mechanical systems with a relatively complete road chassis. This carbureted BS III version uses conventional throttle and choke controls, a serviceable CV carburetor, chain final drive and hydraulically damped suspension. The factory workshop coverage extends beyond the engine to frame removal procedures, wheels, suspension linkages, hydraulic brakes, fuel system, electrical components, instrument cluster and detailed circuit diagrams.
This listing is specifically for the complete 214-page Himalayan BS III carburetor-version vehicle service manual, Part No. 888435, dated January 2017. The source does not state a vehicle model-year range, so the date is retained as the manual edition rather than treated as verified motorcycle-year coverage. It is distinct from the later BS IV EFI publication. Related manuals are organized in the Royal Enfield Himalayan manual catalog.
