About the Royal Enfield Engine Carb LS410 and Himalayan

Royal Enfield launched the Himalayan in 2016 as a purpose-built adventure-touring motorcycle built around the new LS410 engine and a ground-up chassis. Royal Enfield's official March 2016 launch release described the bike as a simpler, more accessible form of adventure tourer and identified the LS410 as a new long-stroke overhead-cam engine platform designed to deliver usable torque at lower engine speeds.

The LS410 power unit documented in this manual is a 411 cm³ single-cylinder four-stroke SOHC engine with a 78 × 86 mm bore and stroke and a 9.5:1 compression ratio. Factory specifications list 24.5 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 32 N·m at 4,250 ±250 rpm. Cooling is by forced air with an oil cooler, while lubrication uses a forced wet-sump system. In this early configuration, induction is through a constant-vacuum carburetor rather than the later electronic fuel-injection system.

Power passes through a wet multi-plate clutch and five-speed constant-mesh gearbox. Primary drive is by gear at 2.31:1, while secondary drive uses sprockets and a 5/8-inch chain at 2.53:1. The long-stroke layout and relatively modest compression ratio suit the Himalayan's intended 411cc long-stroke adventure engine character, emphasizing tractability and serviceability rather than high-rpm performance.

The engine's factory service architecture is deliberately straightforward. The manual maps the complete oil circuit, valve train, crankshaft, balancer, clutch, starter clutch and transmission, then walks through dismantling and reassembly in sequence. Separate wear-limit and torque-value sections provide dimensional checks for the cylinder, piston, crankshaft, valve train, clutch and gearbox components, while the troubleshooting section covers starting, running, noise and shifting faults.

This listing is specifically for the 130-page Engine Carb LS410 factory engine service manual, Part No. 888438, dated March 2016. It is an engine-focused publication rather than a complete Himalayan chassis workshop manual, and the source does not state a motorcycle model-year range. March 2016 is therefore retained as the manual edition date only. Related publications are organized in the Royal Enfield Himalayan manual catalog.
