About the Yamaha YZ125T

Yamaha introduced the YZ125T generation for the 2005 model year as a major redevelopment of its 125 cc two-stroke motocross platform. Yamaha's 2005 competition-model announcement highlighted a redesigned engine and a new aluminum semi-double-cradle frame, moving the YZ125 away from the steel-frame construction used previously. The goal was to reduce mass while improving rigidity balance and handling response for motocross competition. Yamaha's official 2005 YZ series announcement documents the model-year change and the new frame concept.

The engine is a 124 cm³ liquid-cooled two-stroke single with a 54.0 × 54.5 mm bore and stroke and a variable 8.6-10.7:1 compression ratio. Yamaha used a Mikuni TMX38SS carburetor, reed-valve induction and its YPVS exhaust-valve system to shape power delivery across the rev range. The lubrication system uses premixed fuel at a 30:1 ratio with Yamaha's specified two-stroke oil. Power is transmitted through a wet multi-disc clutch, constant-mesh six-speed transmission and chain final drive, giving the motorcycle the compact, high-response layout expected of a 125cc two-stroke motocross bike.

The chassis specification reinforces the competition focus. The 2005 machine uses an aluminum semi-double-cradle frame, 21-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels, single-disc brakes at both ends and long-travel suspension with 300 mm of front wheel travel and 315 mm at the rear. Factory dry weight is listed at 86.0 kg without oil and fuel. Yamaha supplied regional versions under the YZ125T1, YZ125 and YZ125T names, with model codes 1C31, 1C32 and 1C34 depending on market.

The 2005 redesign became the foundation for the next phase of Yamaha's YZ125 development, but later model years were not mechanically frozen. Yamaha's 2006 YZ series announcement documented further engine and chassis revisions for the following model year, which is important when identifying service information by year. Yamaha's 2006 YZ series announcement provides that successor context. Related documentation can be browsed in the Yamaha YZ125T manual category.

This listing is based on Yamaha publication 1C3-28199-10 / LIT-11626-18-33, titled YZ125T1 Owner's Service Manual. It combines owner information with detailed workshop procedures for regular inspection, engine service, chassis work, electrical diagnosis and competition tuning. The manual does not include 2006 or 2007 supplement sections, so the verified catalog coverage is 2005 only.
