About the Hyosung GV250

Hyosung entered motorcycle production in 1978 and gradually moved from technical cooperation with Suzuki toward independently developed motorcycles. By the end of the 1990s the company was expanding beyond small commuters into larger road motorcycles and cruisers. The 250-class cruiser that emerged at the turn of the decade gave Hyosung a distinctive entry-level custom model built around a compact twin-cylinder engine rather than the single-cylinder layout common in many low-cost 250s. Hyosung's corporate history provides the broader background to that transition.

The Aquila 250 appeared around 2000 as a low-seat cruiser aimed at newer riders and everyday road use. Period model records for 2000 describe the same basic combination seen in the factory manual: roughly 248-249 cm³ displacement, air/oil cooling, chain final drive and a five-speed gearbox. The factory chassis specification used a 1,500 mm wheelbase, 155 mm ground clearance, a 110/90-16 front tire and a notably wide 150/80-15 rear tire. Together with the long 33-degree caster and 155 kg unladen mass, those dimensions gave the bike a conventional cruiser stance without moving into heavyweight-cruiser territory.

The GV250 designation became the widely recognized model code for the same small-capacity cruiser family. The early platform used a 249 cm³ DOHC twin with 57 × 48.8 mm bore and stroke, twin Mikuni BDS26 carburetors, wet multi-plate clutch and five-speed constant-mesh transmission. Its front disc/rear drum brake combination and simple telescopic-fork/swingarm chassis kept the motorcycle straightforward to maintain. The result was a practical quarter-liter V-twin cruiser positioned below Hyosung's later 650-class Aquila while retaining much of the visual character riders expected from a larger custom motorcycle.

The model continued through the 2000s, but its specification evolved. Australian market records show GV250 Aquila models continuing from the early 2000s, while later launch coverage documents a major update when Hyosung introduced electronic fuel injection across its 250 range for the 2010 model year. Bikesales' 2009 EFI launch coverage identifies the GV250 as one of the models moving from carburetion to EFI. That fuel-system change is a clear later-generation break from the twin-carburetor platform documented in this manual.

This listing is tied to the earliest factory specification rather than the previous broad 1998-2005 range. The source is Hyosung Motors & Machinery Inc. Service Manual No. 99000-95310, with a 2000 copyright and a second edition dated May 2001. Its five-speed transmission, 150/80-15 rear tire and other specifications align with published 2000 GV250/Aquila records, while commonly published 2001 data already shows specification changes such as a six-speed gearbox and narrower rear tire. Catalog coverage is therefore conservatively limited to 2000. Related factory publications are grouped in the Hyosung GV250 manual catalog.
