About the Aprilia Tuono R Factory
Aprilia created the Tuono line by taking the core performance hardware of the RSV Mille superbike and translating it into an upright, minimally faired road motorcycle. Piaggio Group's official Tuono retrospective traces the idea to the RSV Mille Tuono R Limited Edition shown in 2002. The first major generation change followed in 2006, when the Tuono adopted the technical and styling direction of the 2004 RSV 1000 R and dropped the older RSV prefix, giving the naked model a more independent identity.
The Tuono R Factory represented the highest-specification version of that second-generation V-twin platform. Piaggio's 2007 half-year report states that the Tuono Factory had been introduced at the end of 2006 as a limited edition and, following its commercial success, became a regular production model in 2007. That timing explains why the factory publication carries a 2006 copyright while the embedded document title identifies the machine as MY 07. The Factory treatment concentrated on lighter and more sophisticated running gear rather than creating a separate engine family.
Power came from the V990RR NG, a liquid-cooled 997.6 cm³ 60-degree V-twin with double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Factory data gives a 97 × 67.5 mm bore and stroke, 11.8 ± 0.5:1 compression, 102 kW (137 hp) at 9,500 rpm and 107 N·m at 7,750 rpm. Multipoint electronic injection uses 57 mm throttle bodies, while dry-sump lubrication, a hydraulically operated wet multi-disc clutch with PPC device, six-speed gearbox and 16/40 chain final drive preserve the hard-edged character of an Öhlins-equipped V-twin hypernaked.
The chassis is a light-alloy twin-spar structure with the Factory distinguished by forged wheels, carbon bodywork pieces and higher-grade suspension. The factory specification lists 205 kg kerb weight for the Factory versus 209 kg for the standard R, a 1,410 mm wheelbase and 810 mm saddle height. The Factory uses a fully adjustable Öhlins upside-down fork with 120 mm travel and an APS-linked rear shock with 133 mm wheel travel. Braking is by twin 320 mm floating front discs with four-piston calipers and a 220 mm rear disc. These changes sharpened the second-generation Tuono without altering its basic superbike-derived aluminium-frame and V-twin architecture.
The V-twin Tuono family remained Aprilia's large-capacity naked flagship until the next fundamental platform break in 2011. Piaggio's Tuono V4 R launch material documents the move to the RSV4-derived 65-degree V4, marking the end of the V990-based era at the top of the range. This listing is based specifically on Service Station Manual 854104 for MY2007 and covers scheduled maintenance, electrical diagnosis and wiring, engine removal, complete internal V990RR NG service, fuel injection, suspension, chassis, brakes, clutch, cooling and bodywork. Related documents are grouped in the Aprilia Tuono R Factory category.
