About the Kawasaki ZX10R

Kawasaki introduced the Ninja ZX-10R for the 2004 model year as its new flagship supersport, positioning it above the ZX-9R and around a very compact litre-class package. Kawasaki's 2003 Tokyo Motor Show report identifies the new ZX-10R as one of its headline 2004 motorcycles, while its 2004 annual report described the machine as the company's top-of-the-line Super Sports model with a class-leading power-to-weight ratio. That launch established the platform as Kawasaki's circuit-oriented 1000 cc Ninja and set the direction for the generations that followed.

For 2008 Kawasaki carried out another full model change. Its 2008 annual report states that the revised Ninja ZX-10R incorporated technical feedback from a wide range of racing activities. The third-generation ZX1000E platform uses a 998 cc inline-four superbike engine with liquid cooling and DOHC architecture, and the 2008 redesign brought Kawasaki's KIMS ignition-management system into the package alongside revised chassis and bodywork aimed at sharper circuit performance.

The ZX10R remained uncompromisingly sport-focused in chassis layout, with a six-speed transmission, chain final drive, inverted front fork and Uni-Trak rear suspension. The 2008-2010 E-series generation became a distinct step in the model's development, combining the litre-class Ninja's high-revving engine character with increasingly sophisticated electronics and a platform that Kawasaki continued to support with dedicated racing-kit parts for competition use.

The next major break came for 2011. Kawasaki's 2010 INTERMOT announcement describes the succeeding ZX-10R as an all-new motorcycle with a newly designed engine, frame and suspension, plus S-KTRC traction control and optional KIBS braking technology. That clean-sheet successor helps define the 2008-2010 E-series as its own technical generation rather than a minor update to the earlier C- and D-series machines.

This download is the 2009 Ninja ZX-10R Racing Kit Manual, Doc No. 99929-0305-01, First Edition (1), dated November 25, 2008. It is a competition supplement, and Kawasaki directs readers to publication 99924-1388-02 for standard service procedures. The racing-kit parts list identifies 2008 ZX1000E8FR and 2009 ZX1000E9FR applications. Related ZX-10R workshop and racing publications are available in the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R category.
