Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Mk2 Repair Manual (2006-2007)

Kawasaki substantially revised the Ninja ZX-10R for 2006, creating the second generation of its litre-class superbike. The original 2004-2005 ZX-10R had earned a reputation for extreme performance, and Kawasaki's second-generation development focused heavily on making that performance easier to control.

Chassis stability received considerable attention. Kawasaki fitted an adjustable steering damper as standard equipment, repositioned the engine higher in the frame, moved the steering head forward and revised the rake to 24.5 degrees. The swingarm and pivot geometry were also changed to improve rear-tire grip and make steering more predictable. Period testing described the new motorcycle as noticeably more stable and manageable than the first-generation machine.

The 998 cc engine retained its 76 × 55 mm bore and stroke and 12.7:1 compression ratio, producing 175 PS at 11,700 rpm in unrestricted factory specification. Kawasaki revised the crankshaft, shift mechanism, intake tract and fuel-injection system. The heavier crankshaft and existing back-torque limiting clutch helped smooth corner entry and throttle transitions.

Fuel delivery also received major changes. Kawasaki redesigned the ram-air intake, airbox, throttle bodies and intake ports while using finer-atomizing injectors to improve throttle response. These changes also helped the motorcycle meet stricter Euro III emissions requirements without giving up the performance expected from the ZX-10R.

The 2007 model continued the same second-generation platform, and Kawasaki's final 99924-1365-03 service publication covers both the 2006 D6F and 2007 D7F/D7FA motorcycles. Kawasaki's OEM manual listing confirms the publication's fitment to both years.

For 2008, Kawasaki introduced another substantial redesign, beginning the third-generation ZX-10R and ending the D-series platform covered by this manual.
