Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is the successor of the Ninja ZX-9R in the Ninja sport bike line from Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki. It was first launched in 2004 and has since been updated and changed several times. It sports an ultra-narrow chassis, is light, and has radial brakes. The ZX-10R was named Cycle World magazine’s Best Superbike in 2004 and 2005, as well as the international Masterbike competition.
The 2011 ZX-10R received a considerable mechanical and aesthetic update. Most notably, Kawasaki made its Sport Kawasaki Traction Control (S-KTRC) system standard. It predicts when traction will be lost and reacts appropriately. Also new are an ABS option named Kawasaki Intelligent Braking System (KIBS), a completely new design, adjustable footpegs, bigger throttle bodies, a horizontal rear suspension, lighter three-spoke wheels, Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF) front suspension, and an LCD screen dashboard. The 2012 model is identical to the 2011. The front damper was replaced in 2013 models by an Ohlins electronic front steering dampener.
In 2013, Tom Sykes earned Kawasaki’s first Superbike World Champion since Scott Russell, and the first on a ZX-10R. Stuart Easton won the Macau Grand Prix in 2014. Jonathan Rea won the 2015 season of the Superbike World Championship. At the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Jeremy Toye holds the Heavyweight (Open) lap record.
2016
The 2016 ZX-10R gets a significant overhaul. With ram-air intake at 13,000 rpm, it claims 197 horsepower. A Bosch five-axis Internal Measurement Unit is now used in the electronics (IMU). The unique Kawasaki program calculates the sixth degree. The S-KTRC received an upgrade that included a launch control mode, a quickshifter, and engine brake control. There’s also an optional smarter KIBS cornering ABS. Kawasaki advertises the S-KTRC system as the most sophisticated of all contemporary traction control systems due to its predictive rather than reactive nature. The slipper clutch, balancer, crankshaft, and pistons are among the mechanical improvements that are now lighter. A less restrictive air filter, a bigger air box, and a lighter, less restrictive exhaust system are all available.
A new cassette-style gearbox is vertically stacked. Circular rotors have replaced the old petal rotors that were in use since 2004. They have also grown in size, from 310 mm (12.2 in) to 330 mm (13.0 in). The calipers have been replaced with Brembo M50 Monoblocks, and the master cylinder has been replaced with a radial Brembo. The brake lines are now stainless-steel braided. A 43 mm Showa Balance Free Fork developed from WSBK is a first for production sport motorcycles. Kawasaki also sells Race Kit chassis and engine parts.
2017
The ZX-10RR with the upgraded cylinder head was offered as a homologation special by Kawasaki. High lift cams, a DLC coated valve train, a beefed-up crankcase, Marchesini seven-spoke forged aluminum wheels, a bi-directional quickshifter, and a single seat may all be specified as race-kit items. The model was produced in a limited quantity of 500 pieces.
2018-2019
Due to race organizers applying technical penalties based on Kawasaki’s previously assessed accomplishments, resulting in limits to the highest rpm their engine could produce in race operation, Kawasaki chose the tagline “Ninja Spirit” for the 2018 racing season. Kawasaki said the new restrictions will have a greater impact on their motorcycles than other manufacturers, prompting their reaction: “The spirit of accepting a challenge, striving for on-track greatness, and never giving up.”
Kawasaki introduced a homologation special run of 500 ZX-10RR bikes in late 2018 with a rebuilt engine and improvements like as finger cam followers that allowed for higher rpm and more power output. World Superbike riders Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam utilized this in 2019.
2020
The 2020 model year ZX-10R benefited from racing expertise, including piston and cylinder head components previously exclusively accessible on the ZX-10RR.
