About the Kawasaki ZX10R
Kawasaki launched the Ninja ZX-10R for 2004 as its new flagship litre-class supersport. Kawasaki's 2004 annual report described the model as its top-of-the-line Super Sports machine and highlighted its class-leading power-to-weight ratio. The original ZX10R was conceived around circuit performance rather than adapting a more road-oriented platform, and that emphasis immediately placed it at the center of Kawasaki's superbike program.
The 2004-2005 first generation used the ZX1000C platform, with Kawasaki's Owner Center identifying the 2005 motorcycle as ZX1000-C2. Its 998 cc litre-class superbike engine is a liquid-cooled DOHC 16-valve inline four with a 76.0 x 55.0 mm bore and stroke and 12.7:1 compression. Digital fuel injection feeds four 43 mm throttle bodies, while the drivetrain combines a wet multi-disc clutch with back-torque limiter, a six-speed close-ratio transmission and chain final drive. The compact engine and stacked transmission layout helped Kawasaki keep the wheelbase and overall package short for a 1000 cc machine.
The chassis followed the same low-mass, race-focused philosophy. An aluminum twin-tube backbone frame, fully adjustable 43 mm inverted fork, Uni-Trak rear suspension and radial-mount front brakes gave the early ZX-10R the hardware expected of a contemporary superbike. The 2005 model remained within the original C-series generation, so its character was defined more by refinement of the launch platform than by a complete redesign. Features such as the back-torque limiter and extensive adjustability also made the motorcycle particularly suitable for closed-course setup.
Kawasaki made the next major generational change for 2006. Its 2006 annual report identifies a new Ninja ZX-10R in the large-supersport class, developed with the explicit aim of being number one on the circuit. That model change separates the 2004-2005 C-series from the succeeding generation and is the clearest reason not to generalize competition setup information from this publication to later ZX-10R platforms.
This download is the factory racing-kit supplement specifically for the 2005 ZX1000C2, not the ordinary workshop manual. It covers alternate gearbox ratios, race camshafts and timing, compression and piston setup, bearing clearances, back-torque limiter adjustment, racing alternator and cooling components, kit ECU functions, chassis setup, racing harnesses and wiring diagrams. Kawasaki explicitly instructs users to refer to base Service Manual 99924-1322-02 for standard servicing. Related workshop and racing publications are available in the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R manual category.
