About the Kawasaki ABS
Kawasaki introduced the original Versys in 2006 for the 2007 model year, developing a middleweight road motorcycle around a 649 cc parallel-twin engine, upright riding position, long-travel suspension and 17-inch wheels. Kawasaki described the Versys as a versatile sport model intended to perform across a wide variety of paved-road situations, from city riding to longer-distance use.
For 2010, Kawasaki gave the Versys a substantial update, creating the version commonly referred to as the second generation or Mk2. The revised motorcycle received restyled bodywork and stacked headlights, a larger adjustable windscreen, new mirrors and revised passenger accommodations. Kawasaki also addressed vibration with rubber bushings at the rear engine mounts and rubber-covered footpegs, while retaining the established 649 cc parallel-twin engine and long-travel chassis layout.
The motorcycles covered by this manual belong to the KLE650C and KLE650D families. KLE650C identifies the standard Versys, while KLE650D identifies the ABS-equipped version. The fundamental engine specification remained a liquid-cooled 649 cc DOHC parallel twin rated in this factory manual at 47 kW (64 PS) and 61 Nm in full-power form. The manual covers the 2010 CAF/DAF and 2011 CBF/DBF variants and includes dedicated ABS hydraulic, diagnostic and wiring information for the D models.
This Mk2 styling and chassis generation continued beyond the two model years documented in this particular revision. Kawasaki later issued newer revisions of the same KLE650C/D service-manual family, while the Versys 650 underwent another major redesign for 2015 with a new front-end appearance, adjustable windscreen and other touring-oriented revisions. Kawasaki's current 99924-1435-05 listing covers later KLE650C/D applications, confirming that the service-manual family evolved beyond this -02 edition.
