Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic / Classic LT VN900 Service Manual (2006)

The 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic established Kawasaki's 900-class cruiser platform with the low, long proportions and traditional styling expected of a full-size cruiser. Kawasaki's 2006 annual report states that the company introduced the Vulcan 900 Classic with “big bike” styling and strong riding performance, while the factory service manual also covers the touring-equipped Classic LT version. Kawasaki's Owner Center identifies VN900B6F as the 2006 Vulcan 900 Classic and VN900D6F as the 2006 Vulcan 900 Classic LT, matching the two model codes documented in this publication.

The VN900 platform uses a 903 cc fuel-injected V-twin cruiser engine: a liquid-cooled, four-stroke SOHC two-cylinder unit with an 88.0 × 74.2 mm bore and stroke and 9.5:1 compression ratio. Kawasaki DFI handles fuel delivery, with electric starting and transistorized battery-and-coil ignition. The principal factory specification lists 37 kW (50 PS) at 5,700 rpm and 78 N·m at 3,700 rpm, while U.S., Canada and California output figures are not stated in the general-specification table. Valve clearance is shim-adjusted, specified at 0.10–0.15 mm intake and 0.20–0.25 mm exhaust.

Power passes through a wet multi-disc clutch and five-speed constant-mesh return-shift transmission to a belt final drive with a 2.063 reduction ratio. The tubular double-cradle chassis uses a 1,645 mm wheelbase, 32-degree rake and 160 mm trail. Factory specifications list a 130/90-16 front tire and 180/70-15 rear tire, a telescopic fork with 150 mm wheel travel and Uni-Trak rear suspension with 103 mm travel. Braking is by a single disc at each end. Both versions use a 20 L fuel tank and 680 mm seat height, while dry mass differs between the Classic and touring-equipped Classic LT.
