About the Yamaha YZF-R6
Yamaha introduced an extensively redesigned YZF-R6 for the 2006 model year, positioning it as an extreme middleweight supersport focused on circuit performance while retaining road usability. Yamaha described the machine as a new-generation model rather than a minor revision of the 2003-2005 platform. Yamaha's official 2006 YZF-R6 launch release highlights a newly designed high-revving engine, electronic throttle control, twin-injector fuel injection, slipper clutch, midship muffler and revised suspension as central elements of the redesign.
The 2006 YZF-R6 uses a 599 cm³ liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four with a 67.0 × 42.5 mm bore and stroke and a 12.8:1 compression ratio. The factory service manual documents primary and secondary Denso fuel injectors, a Mikuni 41EIDW throttle body and Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle, or YCC-T. Yamaha introduced YCC-T on this model as the first electronically controlled throttle system used on a mass-production motorcycle, allowing the ECU to calculate the target throttle-valve opening from rider input and operating conditions.
The engine redesign was paired with major intake, exhaust and transmission changes. Yamaha used titanium intake and exhaust valves, a very high-revving cylinder-head design, twin injectors and an EXUP-equipped midship exhaust. Power is transmitted through a wet multi-disc clutch, constant-mesh six-speed gearbox and chain final drive. The combination was developed around the response and top-end performance expected from a high-revving fuel-injected 600cc supersport motorcycle, while the slipper clutch was intended to reduce rear-wheel disturbance during aggressive downshifting.
The chassis continued the R6's compact 1,380 mm wheelbase but introduced revised aluminum-frame geometry and highly adjustable suspension. The factory specifications list a 41 mm front fork, dual 310 mm front brake discs, 120/70ZR17 and 180/55ZR17 tires, and a wet weight of 182 kg for U.S. models. This 2006 platform became the basis for the next phase of R6 development. Yamaha's official 2008 YZF-R6 release shows the next major evolution, adding YCC-I variable intake funnels, revised frame characteristics and a magnesium rear frame while retaining the high-revving supersport concept. Related factory publications are available in the Yamaha YZF-R6 service manual catalog.
This listing is based specifically on factory publication LIT-11616-19-78 / 2C0-28197-10, first edition December 2005, covering YZF-R6V and YZF-R6VC variants with model codes 2C05/2C08 and 2C06. The 419-page manual contains complete base service information for the 2006 model and does not include a 2007 supplementary section, so verified applicability is 2006 only.
