About the Moto Guzzi Breva V750ie

Moto Guzzi introduced the Breva V750ie, sold in factory literature as the Breva 750 IE, in 2003 during the Aprilia-owned phase of the company. It was intended as a genuine fresh start rather than another variation on an existing model. Contemporary Italian testing described the Breva as the first truly new motorcycle of Moto Guzzi’s recovery period, while Cycle World reported management calling it the first major public statement of the renewed company and an important entry-level model. Its name came from the Breva wind that blows across Lake Como, a deliberate symbol of change for the Mandello del Lario marque. See the contemporary March 2003 Moto.it launch test.

The 750 retained a link to Moto Guzzi’s earlier small-block twins, especially the Nevada 750, but the package was substantially modernized for a roadster role. Its air-cooled transverse 90-degree V-twin displaced 744 cc from an 80 × 74 mm bore and stroke and used two pushrod-operated valves per cylinder. Factory specification gave 35.5 kW at 6,800 rpm and 54.7 Nm at 3,600 rpm. Weber-Marelli electronic injection, a three-way catalytic exhaust and lambda feedback moved the engine away from the carburetted small-block era, while a dry single-disc clutch, five-speed gearbox and cardan shaft final drive retained familiar Moto Guzzi mechanical character.

The chassis emphasized accessibility. A tubular duplex-cradle frame, 40 mm Marzocchi fork, twin rear dampers, 17-inch cast wheels and a single 320 mm front disc kept the motorcycle compact and easy to manage. With a 790 mm seat, 1,449 mm wheelbase and 182 kg dry weight, the Breva was designed for city use, everyday road riding and medium-distance touring rather than outright performance. Contemporary road tests repeatedly emphasized its neutral ergonomics, low-speed confidence and approachable handling, making it an important middleweight Italian shaft-drive roadster for riders who wanted traditional Moto Guzzi character without the size of the California or later big-block Breva models.

The model evolved without losing that basic identity. Piaggio Group’s 2006 reporting records a Breva 750 Touring version and the adaptation of the 750 engine family to Euro 3 requirements. The significance of the platform became even clearer in 2008, when Piaggio described the new V7 Classic as using a powertrain derived from the Breva 750. In that sense, the Breva formed a bridge between the Nevada-based small-block tradition and the retro-styled V7 family that became central to Moto Guzzi’s later range. Factory parts catalogue GU000 identifies the Breva IE 750 generation as 2003-2009.

This product covers the Breva 750 IE generation documented by the April 2003 factory workshop publication and the corresponding 2003-2009 factory parts-catalogue generation. The manual itself is model-specific rather than individually dated for every model year, so the 2003-2009 range follows the documented factory generation rather than the previous unsupported 2002 start date. Related workshop documentation is grouped in the Moto Guzzi Breva 750 IE service manual catalog.
