Aprilia Scarabeo 50/100 4T

Aprilia Scarabeo is a scooter. It was originally shown to the public in 1993 in several displacements.
Scarabeo was founded as a model inside the Aprilia family, but it is now a separate brand within the Piaggio family.
It will be phased out of manufacturing by the end of 2020.

The first Scarabeo vehicle was created in January 1970, Aprilia and scooter 50 cm3 cross culture Egyptian: the Scarabeo becomes the parent of a series of off-road vehicles with various engines, which will be produced until 1974.

The research that gave rise to the high-wheel scooter in 1990 was titled “Study for a City Bike”; the first sketch depicts the center tunnel, the huge section wheel, and a single-sided front fork.

Two projects emerge from the pen of Giuseppe Ricciuti, the Scarabeo’s designer: the first is based on an intermediate version of the original city bike (traditional suspensions, lower section wheels, and a central tunnel); the second, more slender, loses the tunnel and features wheels with a smaller section and larger diameter. The maquette from which the final Scarabeo would be developed was unveiled on May 18, 1992. At this stage, engineering work begins that will keep the technical team busy for nearly a year:

Scarabeo is Aprilia’s first vehicle on which computers are being developed.

In the context of the era’s motorcycles, the Scarabeo attempted to combine the protection of scooter fairings with “high” wheels.

The International Bicycle and Motorcycle official presentation took held in September 1993. Some technical breakthroughs, such as the disc brake, are introduced between 1994 and 1998. The 125 and 150 displacements were demonstrated in Lisbon in 1999.

The engines 50 and 100 share the same body, which is smaller, lighter, and more nimble. A bigger version is planned for displacements of 150 (discontinued), 125, and 200 (renewed in early 2009), while a third version is planned for displacements of 250, 300, 400, and 500.

The later engines use electronic injection and adhere to Euro 3 standards.

The 50 displacement had an initial restyling in 2001 and was outfitted with a two-stroke DiTech engine (first generation direct injection for mopeds), which was also found on another Aprilia scooter, the sporty SR.

The Rotax 125, 150, and 200 engines, which differed only in size until 2001, were replaced by the Piaggio engines that power the Vespa GTs in the 125 and 200 displacements. All engines are four-stroke liquid-cooled (except the 50, which is two-stroke and four-stroke air-cooled), with carburetors up to 200 and electronic injection for the 250, 300, 400 (discontinued), and 500 engines.

The Scarabeo 125/200 GT was introduced in 2002, followed by the Scarabeo 500, a scooter plus grand touring model available with ABS from 2004. Scarabeo celebrates 250,000 registered units in 2005. A new 50 cm3 graphic variant dubbed “Graphic” is also born. In 2006, the “Street” variants with 125 and 200 displacements were introduced, as was the new 500, while in 2007 the 250 ie version of the “big” series (same chassis as the 400/500) and the new generation of the “small” 125/200 series were introduced.

The refreshed 50 and 100 range was introduced in May 2014, and sales since then have hit 750,000 units.

The new 2018 range is introduced on November 7, 2017, and it is limited to the Euro 4 authorized four-stroke 50 variant. There are two versions: classic and street.

The model will be phased out at the end of 2020 owing to the implementation of Euro 5 anti-pollution laws on January 1, 2021.

Aprilia RSV Mille

The Aprilia RSV Mille is a sport motorbike produced by Aprilia between 1998 until 2004, when it changed its name to a more international RSV 1000. It was available in three models: RSV Mille, RSV Mille R, and RSV Mille SP.

The initial RSV Mille (ME) was produced between 1998 and 2000, the updated RSV Mille (RP) between 2001 and 2002, and the last version under that name in 2003.

The RSV Mille, which had a 998 cc 60-degree V-twin engine produced by the Austrian company Rotax, was Aprilia’s first big displacement motorcycle, with engines up to 250cc. The same engine was utilized in the Tuono unaltered and in a slightly modified version in the SL1000 Falco.

The Mille had a sort of slipper clutch that functioned by employing a vacuum from the inlet manifold on a closed throttle to simulate a slipper clutch, but only on a closed throttle.

Model History

The first modifications were done in 2001, when the fairing was restyled and wind deflectors were added to increase airflow. The gasoline tank was replaced with a plastic one (with a lower capacity), and the rear shock on both the normal and ‘R’ variants was updated.

The front brake calipers were replaced in 2002 with Brembo Monobloc 4 pad calipers, which improved braking performance and feel by having each piston have its own pad.

The gear ratios were revised in 2003 to provide a somewhat tighter ratio gearbox, the exhaust system was modified, and the tail piece and front mudguard were redone.

The Mille was superseded in 2004 by the RSV-R and RSV-R Factory.

RSV Mille R

The RSV Mille R is a lighter, higher-specified variant of the original Mille, which was debuted in 1999. It has hlins suspension, a steering damper, forged aluminum wheels, a carbon fiber front mudguard, and a shortened subframe for single-person use (no passenger seat).

RSV Mille SP

The SP denotes Sport Production, and this version was created as a specific homologation for the Superbike World Championship. In 1999, just 150 bikes were produced, the minimal number required to homologate the model for the Superbike World Championship. It is powered by a short-stroke variant of the 60-degree V-twin engine developed in conjunction with Cosworth.

Replicas

Aprilia made 300 limited edition RSV Mille R Haga Replicas in 2002. The motorbike is painted in the same colors as Noriyuki Haga’s bike in the Superbike World Championship and comes with a circuit package that includes a full Akrapovic titanium exhaust system and an Eprom injection unit.

In 2003, an RSV Mille R Edwards Replica with a livery inspired by Colin Edwards’ Aprilia RS Cube MotoGP motorbike was released. The motorbike, like the Haga replica, came with a circuit package that featured Akrapovic exhausts, a higher pressurized airbox, an Eprom injection unit, and 57 mm (rather than 51 mm) throttle bodies.

Aprilia RS 50

The Aprilia RS 50 is the smallest sports model of the Aprilia house, this model like the 125 has changed various liveries over the years by imitating its older sister and also some components.

The third generation, produced from 2006 to 2013, derives strictly from the Derbi GPR 50. As the Spanish “cousin” is equipped with first-rate components if you think that it is and remains a moped, the differences therefore remain only on an aesthetic level. Windshield, front mudguard and side fairings now adopt the same shapes as the fourth series of the RS 125, to continue the family-feeling with the RSV 1000, mechanically we switch to wheels with a larger channel on both the front (2.75″ instead of 2.50″), so as to be able to use larger tires (100 instead of 90 at the front) and the rear (3.50″ instead of 3.00″), so as to be able to use larger tires (130 instead of of the 110 at the rear), the new Derbi D50B engine block is also adopted.

Aprilia RS125

The Aprilia RS125 is a sport production motorbike based on a GP replica. It is driven by a Rotax 124.8 cc two-stroke engine with a Nikasil coated aluminum cylinder block and liquid cooling.

RS 125 2005 to 2013

The RS125 has all-new fairing style inspired by the RSV 1000R. It sports angular fairings, two headlight bulbs, a digital gauge, and Marchesini-styled multispoke rims.

Aprilia upgraded to four-piston radial brake calipers and braided brake lines.

Aprilia switched from Nippon-Denso electronics to Piaggio/EFI Technolog electronics and a new ECU in 2008 to fulfill the more rigorous EURO3 emissions rules.

The tank also features a vacuum fuel tap and a new Dell’orto 28 mm VHST carburettor with a vacuum pipe extension.

In 2012, the series was discontinued to make room for the new RS4 125, which transitioned from a two-stroke to a single-cylinder four-stroke fuel-injected system.
