Kawasaki KLX250 / D-Tracker X Service Manual (2009–2012)

Kawasaki introduced a substantially revised 250-class platform in 2008, with the KLX250 aimed at dual-purpose riding and the D-Tracker X configured for street-focused motard use. Kawasaki's launch material described the KLX250 as an all-new model with fuel injection, revised styling and updated suspension characteristics, while the D-Tracker X shared the same basic 249 cc engine platform but used 17-inch wheels, street tires and road-oriented chassis settings. The service manual used here covers the following production years of that redesigned family, from 2009 through 2012.

Both versions use a fuel-injected 249 cc dual-purpose platform built around a liquid-cooled, four-stroke DOHC single-cylinder engine with four valves, a 72.0 × 61.2 mm bore and stroke and 11.0:1 compression ratio. Kawasaki's DFI system uses a single 34 mm Keihin throttle body, with CDI ignition and electric starting. The engine drives through a wet multi-disc clutch and six-speed constant-mesh return-shift transmission. Factory specifications list 1.3 L of engine oil when completely dry and a 7.7 L fuel tank.

The KLX250S and D-Tracker X share the same basic engine and transmission but differ substantially in chassis setup. The KLX250S uses 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tube-type wheels, 255 mm front suspension travel, 230 mm rear travel and a 3.000 final-drive reduction ratio. The D-Tracker X uses 17-inch wheels with 110/70 front and 130/70 rear street tires, 230 mm front travel, 205 mm rear travel and a 2.786 final-drive ratio. Both use a tubular semi-double-cradle frame, Uni-Trak rear suspension and single-disc front and rear brakes.
