About the Royal Enfield Bullet Classic and Bullet Electra
Royal Enfield moved its long-running Bullet family into the Unit Construction Engine era as tighter emissions requirements and export-market expectations pushed the company away from its older cast-iron and Lean Burn powertrains. Royal Enfield’s official timeline records the 2008 debut of the UCE platform in India and the start of 500 cc EFI exports, while Eicher Motors’ 2009 annual report states that the UCE architecture would replace the older engines in Electra and Standard motorcycles from April 2010. That transition provides the context for the EFI Bullet variants documented in this factory publication.
The Bullet Electra EFI and related G5 specification use a 499 cc air-cooled single-cylinder UCE with an 84 × 90 mm bore and stroke, 8.5:1 compression ratio and a five-speed constant-mesh gearbox. Factory output is listed at 20.3 kW at 5,250 rpm with 41.3 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. The integrated engine, gearbox and clutch layout reduced the number of separate housings used by earlier Royal Enfield designs, while hydraulic tappets, an automatic decompressor, automatic primary-chain tensioner and electric starting made routine use and servicing more contemporary.
The Bullet Classic EFI C5 shares the same basic 499 cc UCE and electronic fuel-injection architecture but combines it with the lower, retro-styled Classic chassis package. Royal Enfield’s official history notes that the Classic 500 was exported to Europe from 2008 and that the Classic went on sale in India on the UCE platform in 2009. Across the E5, G5 and C5 variants, the factory system uses an ECU, throttle-position and manifold-pressure sensing, an engine-temperature sensor, crank-position sensing, an oxygen sensor and a high-pressure fuel pump. This fuel-injected 500 cc UCE single-cylinder platform is the defining technical basis of the motorcycles covered here.
Chassis equipment remained deliberately straightforward. The manual specifies a tubular frame, telescopic hydraulic front fork with 130 mm stroke, twin gas-charged rear shock absorbers, a 280 mm hydraulic front disc and 153 mm mechanical rear drum. The Bullet Electra/G5 and Classic C5 differ in wheel, tyre, bodywork and final-drive details, so the service information includes variant-specific specifications and assembly procedures rather than treating all models as mechanically identical.
This listing is for the December 2010 factory service publication covering E5, G5 and C5 EFI variants. It does not document blanket compatibility with every Bullet or Classic produced from 2007 through 2016. Related manuals are grouped in the Royal Enfield Bullet manual catalog. Manufacturer context is available from the Royal Enfield official timeline and the Eicher Motors 2009 annual report.
