Triumph's Hinckley-era Modern Classics family emerged at the beginning of the 2000s, with the modern Bonneville range launching in 2001. The Bonneville T100 followed in 2002, initially using a 790 cc parallel-twin engine before later versions moved to 865 cc. These motorcycles combined traditional Triumph styling with a modern chassis, disc brakes and contemporary electrical systems while retaining the air-cooled parallel-twin layout that defined this generation.

The platform developed into several distinct motorcycles. America and Speedmaster formed the cruiser branch of the family, while the Thruxton brought a café-racer interpretation to the platform. Triumph reintroduced the Scrambler in 2006, adding high-level exhausts and scrambler-inspired styling.
