About the Triumph Tiger Explorer and Tiger Explorer XC
Triumph introduced the Tiger Explorer for the 2012 model year as its first large-capacity adventure-touring motorcycle aimed directly at the heavyweight adventure class. At its centre was an all-new 1,215 cc three-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed gearbox and shaft final drive. The engine produced 137 PS and 121 Nm in the factory service specification, while Triumph combined it with a steel trellis chassis and 19-inch front wheel to balance long-distance road use with light adventure capability. Contemporary launch material also highlighted the new ride-by-wire throttle and extended 10,000-mile / 16,000-km major service interval.
For 2013, Triumph expanded the family with the Tiger Explorer XC. The XC retained the same 1,215 cc triple, transmission and shaft drive but adopted wire-spoked wheels and additional equipment aimed at riders spending more time away from paved roads. The fundamental engine and drivetrain specification remained unchanged, allowing Triumph to use the same core service-manual publication across the original Explorer family.
The original Tiger Explorer platform continued through 2015. Triumph's OEM service-literature catalog identifies service manual T3852795 for the Tiger Explorer and Tiger Explorer XC up to VIN 740276, which provides a useful technical boundary for this first generation.
For 2016, Triumph substantially redesigned the Explorer range and introduced the XR, XRx, XRt, XC, XCx and XCa variants. Those motorcycles gained revised engines, chassis equipment and a much more advanced electronics package, including model-dependent semi-active suspension, cornering ABS and traction control.
