Suzuki GSX-R600 Service Manual (2006-2007)

Suzuki introduced an all-new GSX-R600 for 2006, replacing the K4/K5 generation with a substantially more compact motorcycle. The new 599 cc inline-four retained the familiar 67.0 × 42.5 mm bore and stroke but was redesigned to be 54 mm shorter, 20 mm lower and 16 mm narrower than the previous engine. The changes allowed Suzuki to concentrate mass more tightly around the center of the motorcycle and lower its center of gravity.

Engine development included larger titanium valves, enlarged crankcase ventilation passages and a revised fuel-injection system using two injectors per cylinder. Suzuki rated the new engine at 92 kW (125 PS) at 13,500 rpm, with 67.7 Nm of torque at 11,500 rpm.

A major visual and engineering change was the new Suzuki Advanced Exhaust System (SAES). Instead of the large side-mounted silencer used on earlier GSX-R600s, much of the exhaust volume was positioned underneath the engine. This shortened the visible muffler and helped centralize mass while giving the K6 its distinctive compact appearance.

Suzuki also lengthened the swingarm by approximately 35 mm while maintaining a 1,400 mm wheelbase. The combination allowed greater flexibility in rider positioning while retaining the quick steering expected of a 600 cc supersport. The motorcycle used inverted forks, radial front brakes and 120/70 ZR17 and 180/55 ZR17 tires.

The 2007 K7 continued the K6 platform with only minor revisions. This made the K6/K7 generation a distinct two-year stage in GSX-R600 development before Suzuki introduced another revised model for 2008. The 2008 generation retained the same basic 599 cc layout and 125 PS output but gained a higher 12.8:1 compression ratio, updated injection, revised braking components and other changes.
